Members of the Ottawa Senators were caught on camera slamming one of their coaches while they were in the Phoenix area to face the Arizona Coyotes last week, the Ottawa Sun reported Monday.During the video, Senators players made derogatory comments about an assistant coach during an Uber ride in the Valley. The conversation was being recorded, presumably by the Uber driver and without the knowledge of any of the players.Forward Matt Duchene, defenseman Chris Wideman, center Chris Tierney, defenseman Thomas Chabot, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, forward Colin White and forward Alex Formenton were in the vehicle during the conversation in question. The video lasts a total of five minutes.During the video, the players made comments about Senators assistant coach Martin Raymond, questioning the effectiveness of his coaching and his meetings to discuss strategy. “Do you notice that when he runs the video, if you actually do pay attention, he doesn’t ever teach you anything? He just commentates what’s happening," Wideman said.“Here’s the other thing, too. We don’t change anything, ever. So why do we even have a meeting? I haven’t paid attention in three weeks," Duchene said. In response to the video, the players seen in the video issued the following statement Monday night:"We want to apologize publicly to Marty Raymond, our teammates and coaches for our comments in Phoenix, Arizona on October 29. Our private conversation was recorded without our knowledge or consent. We're passionate about our team, and focusing on growing together. We are grateful for the support of our fans and organization. This is an important learning experience, and we will do better."In addition, Senators head coach Guy Boucher issued the following statement:"Nothing is more important to us during this rebuild than making sure our players and coaches are fully committed to our plan, our values and our system of play. We have every confidence in Marty Raymond's coaching; in the effort and determination of our team; and in the sincerity of our players' apology. We are now treating this as a team matter, and will be making no further comment to the media."The video was posted on YouTube and Twitter last weekend before being removed, but the Ottawa Citizen has since reposted the video. It appears the Uber driver may also be in some trouble, as Rob Khazzam, general manager of Uber Canada, said the following via Twitter on Monday evening:"A video was released by the media today of several Uber passengers being filmed without their consent while having a private discussion during a trip in Phoenix. This is a clear violation of our terms of service and we worked vigorously to investigate this issue. Filming or recording passengers without their consent is totally unacceptable and if reported / detected we will investigate + take action to preserve our communities privacy and integrity. In this specific case, we made efforts to have the video taken down."Warning: This video contains strong language. The Coyotes defeated the Senators 5-1 on Oct. 30. 3148

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Sunday evening measures to try and slow the growing spread of COVID-19 in her state. In a press conference Sunday evening, Whitmer and state health officials announced a "Three-Week Pause" aimed at mitigating the spread of the virus.Between Nov. 18 and Dec. 8, the state will mandate that the following operations be closed:In-person learning at high schools, colleges and universitiesTheaters, stadiums and arenasAll who are able to work from home will be required to do soDine-in restaurants and barsOrganized sports, except professional sportsBowling centers, ice skating, indoor water parksBingo halls, casinos, arcadesGroup fitness classesSeveral businesses will remain open, according to the state, including:Hair salons, barbershops and other "personal services"Gyms and pools for individual exerciseRetail storesPreschool through 8th gradeChildcarePublic transitManufacturing, construction, other work that is impossible to do remotelyThe state is also putting restrictions on private gatherings — indoor gatherings are limited to two households and 10 people, and outdoor gatherings are limited to 25 people.“In the spring, we listened to public health experts, stomped the curve, and saved thousands of lives together. Now, we must channel that same energy and join forces again to protect our families, frontline workers and small businesses,” Whitmer said in a release. “Right now, there are thousands of cases a day and hundreds of deaths a week in Michigan, and the number is growing. If we don’t act now, thousands more will die, and our hospitals will continue to be overwhelmed. We can get through this together by listening to health experts once again and taking action right now to slow the spread of this deadly virus."“Indoor gatherings are the greatest source of spread, and sharply limiting them is our focus,” said MDHHS Director Robert Gordon. “The order is targeted and temporary, but a terrible loss of life will be forever unless we act. By coming together today, we can save thousands of lives.State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, a Republican, released a statement sharply criticizing Whitmer's restrictions.“We are disappointed that Gov. Whitmer chose to go it alone, again," Shirkey said. "The Senate Republicans will continue working with our doctors and the medical community on ways we can combat this virus and are ready to work with the Governor when she decides to work as a team to fight this virus."The state has seen an upward trend in cases, with record single-day numbers. On Saturday, the state reported 7,072 new positive virus cases and 65 more deaths. On Friday, the state reached its highest single-day record to date with 8,516 new coronavirus cases reported. In the last five days, between Nov. 9 and 13, there were 35,009 cases of COVID-19 and the daily record was broken three times.More than one-fourth — about 27% — of the total cases since the pandemic began have come since the beginning of November. In one month, from Oct. 13 to Nov. 13, hospitalizations in Michigan increased 232%. There were 999 total hospitalizations on Oct.13 and 3,320 hospitalizations on Nov. 13.This story was originally published by WXYZ in Detroit. 3235

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A billboard calling for justice in the Breonna Taylor case was vandalized with red paint in Louisville..The public discovered the vandalism to the sign near the city’s Irish Hill neighborhood Tuesday morning, WLKY and WAVE report. However, by Tuesday afternoon, both TV stations say the paint had either been removed from the billboard or it had been replaced. The billboard is one of several erected in the Kentucky city by Oprah Winfrey and her magazine, which featured Taylor on its September issue. She was the first person other than Oprah herself to grace the cover. The signs feature a photo of the 26-year-old woman who was shot and killed by police in her home in March. They also have a call to action – “Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged” – and encourage people to visit the website for Until Freedom, a social justice organization created to address systemic and racial injustice.Taylor died on March 13 after three Louisville police officers executing a search warrant used a battering ram to enter her home. The emergency room technician and her boyfriend were in bed. After a brief exchange, Taylor’s boyfriend reportedly fired his gun and then police fired shots, striking Taylor at least eight times. She died in the apartment hallway.Since Taylor’s death, protests have been held across the country, demanding that the officers involved be charged in her killing. Many celebrities other than Oprah have also used their platforms to call for action. For now, the shooting is under investigation by the FBI and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Both are deciding whether criminal charges are warranted in the case. 1708
