A customer shot a waiter to death at a pizzeria in the Paris suburbs after being made to wait too long for a sandwich, witnesses say.The 29-year-old waiter was killed in Noisy-le-Grand, around nine miles from the center of Paris, on Friday night, the prosecutor's office in neighboring Bobigny told CNN.Witnesses say the man was angry about the length of time taken to prepare his sandwich, the prosecutor's office confirmed.Staff called police after the waiter was shot in the shoulder with a handgun, the AFP news agency reports.The gunman fled the restaurant and the waiter died at the scene. This cat has a weight problem. “She’s uncomfortable, she has to lay down,” said Brita Kiffney, the cat's vet at Northshore Veterinary Hospital. “She plays of five, ten minutes if you’re in a good spot and then she’s like, I gotta, I gotta lay down,” said Jason Collins, a vet tech at Northshore. She weighs almost twice as much as a healthy cat should. And it's made her famous. This is Cinderblock. And a few months ago she went viral for something a lot of humans can relate to - refusing to exercise. “I think it’s gone straight to her head. I mean, honestly, she demands like five times more brushing than she used to. It’s wild,” said Jason.He had no idea it would go viral. “I think my wife that night was like it’s got like 7,000 view already,” The video now has over 3.2 million views. A fat cat might be fun to cuddle, but the reality is being overweight is hard for animals. Brita Kiffney, Cinder's vet, knows that all too well. “It certainly leads to pain, contributes to arthritis, decreased lung capacity, promotes diabetes, some liver diseases, pancreatitis, inflammation throughout the body,” Kiffney said. It can lead to a lot of issues, just like it does for humans. “Upwards of 60% of cats and 56% of dogs are considered to be overweight or obese. So I would say that yeah, that’s becoming a bit of an issue,” said Andrea Clewley. A man walked into a California police department Monday and told officers he had killed four people, police say.One of the bodies was in the car the suspect drove to the Mt. Shasta Police Department. His three other victims were in his apartment more than 200 miles away, Roseville Police Department Captain Josh Simon said in a Monday news conference.Roseville officers learned of the man's confession around noon, when they received a call from Mt. Shasta police, who detained the suspect after he came in.Roseville is about 20 miles from Sacramento and about 212 miles from Mt. Shasta.This is an ongoing investigation in coordination with the Mt. Shasta police department, Simon said, adding police don't believe the quadruple homicide was a random act. The suspects and the victim likely knew each other, police said.Police did not identify the suspect or the victims."The sole suspect involved in this incident is in custody and we do not believe there is any ongoing threat to our community," he said.The killings, he said, will likely take a toll on the Roseville community."This can really have an effect on all our first responders and people who may or may not know these victims. SAN LUIS OBISPO, Cali. – It’s harvest time on California’s Central Coast and winemaker Jean-Pierre Wolff has seen a big drop in production since last year. “This year, the harvest is below average,” he said. “Some of my older vines did suffer from salt toxicity and have been steadily declining.” Wolff owns and operates the award-winning Wolff Vineyards. He says climate change is affecting his grapes and that he has the records to prove it. “Absolutely, I have my lab book where I describe extensively the harvest and the sugar levels of the grapes,” he said. “So, definitely I see these changes.” Wolff says the changes are linked to extreme weather like longer droughts, hotter summers and milder winters. “I’ve been farming here for 20 years,” he said. “Years ago, I didn’t have to worry about sunburns on my grapes, now I do.” Less rain means more reliance on irrigation, which Wolff says is cutting into his and other wineries’ bottom lines. “If you take the Central Coast, which is defined from the Bay Area to Ventura County, 86% of the water use is from ground water extraction,” he said. “So clearly, that’s not sustainable if we have to offset.” At nearby California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, they have a growing viticulture program. Cal Poly professor Federico Casassa, Ph.D. says climate change is altering wine agriculture across the world. “Heatwaves are extremely pervasive not just in California but in Australia, in South America, and increasingly in Europe as well,” he said. Despite the impact, Casassa says climate change doesn’t mean doomsday for the wine industry. “My point is global warming and climate change are a reality,” he said. “But the effect that we see on grapes is not only due to global warming, it’s due to the fact that we grow better grapes." Now, Casassa is teaching better and more sustainable practices to viticulture students saying sustainability is not a destination but rather a journey. "Climate change is here and global warming is part of climate change,” he said. “But we are going to adapt.” Adapting, just like Wolff is doing. “I’m sort of here trying to beat the clock so to speak,” he said. To help protect his harvest, Wolff is now replanting a big portion of his vineyard and watering them with a new type of subsurface irrigation. “Instead of irrigating above ground through this drip line I connect with a little spaghetti hose and this pipe goes 3 feet below ground to the root zone,” he said. And while he might not be able to change the climate, Wolff does plan on changing his practices. 2608
