SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person was killed in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 805 in the South Bay that forced lane closures and led to a heavy traffic backup during the Wednesday morning commute.Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol reported a crash involving a Nissan pickup truck colliding with a Caltrans truck that was working along the side of northbound I-805 near Bonita Road.CHP officials determined that a Toyota Yaris struck the pickup, causing it to slam into the back of the Caltrans truck, which was hauling asphalt.CHECK TRAFFIC CONDITIONS10News learned the Nissan's driver died at the hospital after sustaining injuries from the wreck.Yaris' driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.No other injuries were reported, and CHP officials said the crash is under investigation.The crash and clean-up led to the closure of at least two lanes on northbound I-805 at Bonita Road. The onramp from Bonita Road to northbound I-805 was also shut down.The closures caused a traffic jam that extended south past Palomar Street in Chula Vista.To alleviate some of the gridlock, the CHP opened the HOV lanes to all vehicles. 1207

Some have encouraged his love of dance, some have shared their own messages of bad customer service experiences and others are proud of him for keeping people safe by encouraging mask wearing."It’s touched something in everyone around the world and I think it just shows that there’s good people everywhere," said Cowan.Lenin said this money will give him the resource to accomplish many dreams. He’s been meeting with a financial planner and plans to use the money to pursue a degree in kinesiology, donate to charity and also follow his dream of dancing.“I can’t be grateful enough. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One country that was hit especially hard early on during this coronavirus pandemic was Italy.A former San Diego resident living in Milan said things have finally started returning to normal after a strict lockdown that lasted longer than two months.“There’s a feeling of hope,” said Bea Pesenti. “Obviously now it’s in a rebuilding phase.”Pesenti and her fiancé, Wilson, moved from San Diego to Milan in August of 2019. 10News first interviewed Pesenti in March when Italy was struggling with the spread of COVID-19.“We have been in the heart of it,” she said. “When I spoke to you last, the situation felt really dramatic because we really were in ground zero.”The couple was holed up in their Milan apartment for more than two months.“We were in a very, very severe lockdown,” she explained. “You heard the sirens, and you really just felt this heavy energy.”Fast forward today, Pesenti said she finally sees a return to a sense of normalcy.“The lockdown has ended, the businesses have reopened,” she said. “We immediately saw family because that was the priority for us. Kind of enjoyed being able to take bike rides and going to the park but still limiting our contact.”She said businesses have new safety guidelines in place, and face masks are required in public.There were 70 deaths reported in the country on Thursday, a drastic drop from the 919 reported on March 27.“I think people really needed to have this easement and get back to life,” she said. “Not only from an economic standpoint but being locked in your house for 80 days is just unnatural.”Pesenti hopes things will go smoothly as more of the country begins reopening.“We haven’t had this second wave, so to speak, so hopefully it continues this way,” she said.And she has a piece of advice for San Diegans as our restrictions start to loosen, “I hope people really, really think hard and make the right decisions even as things ease up, still be mindful and considerate of other people’s comfort level.”A restriction on travel between Italian regions is expected to be lifted in early June, however, officials warn that could change if there is a spike in the number of positive COVID-19 cases. 2195

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Wednesday released bodycam video following a deadly officer-involved shooting in Oak Park in late January. The graphic video opens with San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit explaining what led up to the shooting. According to Nisleit, officers spotted Toby Diller, 31, on the 2900 block of 54th Street with an open container of alcohol. RELATED: Officers, suspect identified in deadly Oak Park shootingNisleit says officers activated lights on their patrol car and tried to make contact with Diller, but he ran away. Video of the incident shows the officers, later identified as Benjamin Downing and Devion Johnson, running after Diller before catching up to him. At that point, Nisleit says Diller resisted arrest, grappling with police on the ground. "The officers gave him verbal commands to stop resisting, but he refused to cooperate,'' Lt. Matt Dobbs previously said. That’s when Johnson opened fire on the 31-year-old suspect. Diller died at the scene. Johnson has been with the department for two years and Downing for five. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person was shot and killed Friday at the Linda Vista Recreation Center, San Diego Police said.The shooting happened about 5 p.m. at the facility at 7064 Levant St., near the intersection of Linda Vista Road and Genesee Avenue.A witness told 10News he heard the shots and saw a teenager with a gunshot wound to the chest and someone performing CPR.RELATED: 17-year-old shot during Linda Vista drive-by shootingVideo from Sky10 showed police tape blocking off part of the parking lot near the tennis courts and officers with flashlights on the area's walkways.No information was immediately available about the shooter.Bystanders said this type of violence is happening at least once a month and blamed homeless people and gangs.This is the fourth shooting since May in Linda Vista.
