SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Health officials have confirmed a positive case of COVID-19 at an assisted living center in the College Area.On Wednesday, 10News tried to get answers from Stellar Care Center, located just south of the College Area. On Tuesday night, San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten revealed that they were looking into a patient at the home who may have tested positive. “Our staff [is] investigating this situation and once it's determined if there's individuals or patients with influenza-like illnesses, the staff there will collect specimen and send them to our lab for testing,” she stated.Across the country, concerns over the spread of the virus in nursing homes continues to grow. In Kirkland, Wash., an outbreak of the virus at the Life Care assisted living center lead to at least 35 reported deaths, according the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Louisiana, seven deaths have been linked to a retirement community out of New Orleans. 10News reached out to Stellar Care Center and San Diego County for additional information. A spokesperson for San Diego County writes, "I can confirm that there is a positive case of COVID-19 at Stellar Care Assisted Living. Skilled nursing facilities throughout the County have amplified their protocols to address the COVID-19 pandemic using strategies similar to those recommended by the County of San Diego in responding to an influenza outbreak. These protocols include limiting the amount of people in congregant settings (including meals, activities and visitors) while amplifying cleaning and sanitation measures and providing additional training for staff."The State Department of Social Services writes, “In order to protect confidentiality, we are not able confirm or provide details regarding specific individuals or locations.” 1835

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Gas prices in Southern California continue to rise sharply as prices throughout the rest of the U.S. continue to fall. According to GasBuddy, the national average is down two cents, currently costing .65 per gallon. In California, the average as of Sunday is .98 per gallon and could hit by late Sunday or Monday, GasBuddy says. In San Diego County, the average price per gallon has increased by more than 40 cents over the last 13 days, AAA reports. The jolting increase in gas prices is a result of lower supplies caused by maintenance issues at several California refineries. The issues are reportedly affecting the Chevron and Marathon refineries in Los Angeles County at the same time. It's unclear when normal operations will resume. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Four rescued sea lion pups and a northern fur seal were released back into the ocean after rehabilitating at SeaWorld.The fur seal was rescued on Mission Beach on Dec. 30, 2019, and the four sea lion pups came into SeaWorld's care over the past two months. All the animals were malnourished and dehydrated, animal care experts said.During their rehabilitation, the animals doubled in weight and were given a clean bill of health by SeaWorld veterinarians. The animals' care givers also made sure the animals could demonstrate they were able to fend for themselves before they were returned to the sea.RELATED: SeaWorld sees high number of sea lion rescuesSeaWorld released the five animals about five miles west of Scripps Pier near La Jolla.Last month, the park released another four sea lions who were under their care back into the ocean.Since the start of 2020, SeaWorld says it has rescued nearly 20 sea lions and seals.SeaWorld told 10News in January that rescuers have seen an unusually large number — about three times the normal amount — of sea lion rescues this winter."The winter storms may be pushing schools of fish out further than seal lion pups can get to. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Emergency crews rescued a driver that was trapped in an SUV that rolled over on a Clairemont street early Tuesday morning.At around 2:30 a.m., San Diego firefighters and police were called to the 4000 block of Genesee Avenue in response to a crash involving a red SUV.A witness told ABC 10News the vehicle was speeding down the street when it struck a median and then rolled over several times, also hitting some parked vehicles.The witness said two passengers were able to get out of the wreckage, but the driver was pinned in the SUV.Responding crews took about 30 minutes to get the driver out with the Jaws of Life. The driver and one passenger were taken to the hospital, but the other passenger left the scene and is being sought by police. 774
