BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Li Keqiang's three-nation visit to Europe has expressed China's confidence, boosted mutual trust, expanded cooperation and deepened mutual understanding, Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying said Thursday.Li returned to Beijing on Thursday afternoon after making visits to Spain, Germany and Britain at the invitations of their governments.Fu said that the vice premier's visits took place as the deep-seated impact of the international financial crisis remains unabated, the global economic recovery still faces uncertainties, and as Europe is in a tough fight against sovereignty debt crises.The visits were a great success and have been a solid start for the development of China's relations with Europe in 2011, Fu said.ENHANCED MUTUAL UNDERSTANDINGAccording to the vice foreign minister, Li said during his visit that China is a strategic partner of the three nations, and shares with them extensive common interests. NANJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- About 5,000 Chinese and foreigners gathered Monday in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, to mourn hundreds of thousands of people who were killed by invading Japanese troops 73 years ago.Participants in the ceremony stood in silent tribute, offered wreaths and bowed in front of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre, with sirens wailing in the drizzling morning on Monday, the 73rd anniversary of the massive slaughter."The Japanese soldiers invaded Nanjing when I was four, and they killed some of my family members. On the anniversary of the massacre every year I would come here to express my grief," said Sun Xuelan, a 77-year-old survivor, who is confined to a wheelchair.Japanese troops occupied Nanjing on Dec. 13, 1937 and began a six-week massacre. Records show more than 300,000 people -- not only disarmed soldiers , but also civilians -- were killed.Mikhalchev Mikhail, deputy director of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Russia, said, "In the history of human civilization, some facts shouldn't be forgotten, and the Nanjing Massacre was one of them."He noted that the tragedy had become a symbol of the Chinese people's bitter suffering and prompted all people to learn the preciousness of peace.""We should remember the history, but not hatred. "The dictionary may serve as a consolation to the deceased," Zhu said.

BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- China experienced the most frequent and severe weather during 2010, compared to weather in other years of the past decade, a weather official said here Thursday.Chen Zhenlin, a spokesman with the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), said the numbers of extremely high temperature days and extreme precipitation cases that China experienced in the year were rarely seen in history, as was the intensity and area effected by this weather.Extreme weather refers to rare weather phenomena that substantially differ from average conditions and which represent only five percent or less of total weather incidents.According to Chen, China experienced the longest hot spell this year since 1961, as the national average number of days of extremely hot weather climbed to 3.5 days more than the normal level, while the average extreme high temperature reached a historical high not seen since 1961 -- 2 degrees Celsius higher than normal conditions.Meanwhile, average daily precipitation at China's 97 meteorological stations was the highest ever, and the annual number of extreme precipitation cases was the largest since 1961, he said.Further, seven tropical cyclones made landfall in southern China this year.
