DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) — While concerts are on hiatus during the pandemic, the Del Mar Fairgrounds will host several "concerts in your car" this fall.Acts including Dirty Heads, DJ Snoopadelic (aka Snoop Dogg), Slightly Stoopid, The Beach Boys, and more will take the stage at Del Mar between Sept. 25 and Nov. 1. Concerts will be held on a high, theater-in-the-round style, four-sided stage to give concertgoers a view of the show from any direction.Ticket prices for vehicles range based on the concert and which color-coded section you select. Many of the concerts start at per car for the furthest section from the stage. Large video screens have been added to each side of the stage.Passengers must not exceed the number of seats and seat belts in a vehicle, according to the concert series' producer. Vehicles will then tune into the audio via their radio, sit back, and enjoy.Tickets must be purchased ahead of time and are online only.Movie screenings are also scheduled between Sept. 22 and 30 for a flat rate of per car, featuring Trolls, Grease, Jurassic Park, The Big Lebowski, and Dirty Dancing. 1124

Decades of underinvestment has left tens of thousands of schools across the country with inadequate ventilation systems, a problem that is now front and center in the debate to reopen schools during the pandemic.Nationally, 90 percent of schools fail to meet minimum ventilation standards. It’s an issue Dr. Joseph Allen has been sounding the alarm about since COVID-19 first shut down schools earlier this year.“We’ve chronically underinvested in our schools’ buildings,” said Dr. Allen who serves as the director of the Healthy Buildings program at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health.Dr. Allen and his colleagues have spent months analyzing school buildings, and back in June, they released a detailed 60-page report that school districts could follow in order to safely bring kids back into the classroom. In order to keep COVID-19 from spreading in schools, two things have to happen: everyone in the buildings must be wearing masks and school districts need to ensure buildings have proper ventilation, the report found.“If air is being recirculated and not filtered, all of that air that’s coming from one space and going to another could be potentially contaminated and spread the virus,” Dr. Allen said. But replacing decades-old ventilation systems that may not work properly is expensive and time-consuming. Because of that, Dr. Allen is recommending school districts also consider portable air cleaners for classrooms.Through his research, Dr. Allen found that if you can change the air in a classroom five times per hour, it cleans the air in that space every 12 minutes. However, the air cleaners must be equipped with a HEPPA filter in order to be effective.Even something as simple as opening windows could reduce the transmission of the virus.“If you look at the cases of spread in school right now, they all share common traits; it’s no mask-wearing and low to no ventilation. When we do that, we can guarantee there will be more cases,” he explained.Last week, the Healthy Buildings program also released a detailed portable air cleaner calculator. The tool allows school administrators to input the size of the classroom, even ceiling height, and then determine the kind of air cleaner that would most effectively keep COVID-19 from spreading.“It is critically important that we get kids back into in-person learning and we haven’t treated it as this national priority that it needs to be,” Dr. Allen added. 2438

Despite a partial government shutdown experts say could stretch into the new year, NORAD’s famous Santa Tracker will still be up and running. According to ABC News, hundreds of volunteers decked out in Christmas hats and military uniforms will still take calls from children around the world. The military told ABC News that the Santa Tracker won’t be affected because it’s run by volunteers at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado. LIVE: Follow Santa with NORAD's trackerThe Santa Tracker is in its 63rd year. The famous phone line became a tradition after a mistaken phone call to the Continental Air Defense Command in 1955. CONAD had the job of monitoring a radar network for any sign of a nuclear attack. When Col. Harry Shoup answered the phone one day, on the other end was a child who wanted to speak with Santa. According to ABC News, a local newspaper ran an ad inviting kids to call Santa, but listed the wrong number. Denver Broncos starting running back Melvin Gordon was charged with a DUI and speeding of 25-39 mph over the limit Tuesday night in downtown Denver, according to court records.“We are aware of the situation involving Melvin Gordon. Our organization has been in communication with him and is in the process of gathering more details,” the team said in a statement on Wednesday.Gordon, 27, was cited at 5th Avenue and Speer Blvd., according to court records. Based on NFL precedent, he is facing a likely 2-to-3 game suspension. Broncos safety Kareem Jackson was suspended for the final two games of last season for violating the NFL policy and program on substances of abuse stemming from a Sept. 19, 2019 DUI arrest.Gordon is coming off his best game as a Bronco, eclipsing 100 yards in a victory over the Jets on Oct. 15. He became the full-time starter in Week 2 following Phillip Lindsay’s turf toe injury in the season opener. Both are expected to play this week.Court records indicate Gordon has an arraignment scheduled for Nov. 13.The Broncos are scheduled to return to practice Wednesday morning in preparation for Sunday’s road game at New England. This story was originally published by Troy Renck on KMGH in Denver. 1233

DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) - Reports of a positive COVID-19 test at an East County Catholic church are raising concerns about possible exposure. The church is Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Descanso. On a Facebook post, a board member of the Descanso Town Hall reported a positive case was just revealed to the church pastor by a parishioner. In a statement, a spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of San Diego says the parishioner is a volunteer who helps prepare the altar for services. She wore a mask and maintained social distance.According to the post, "the person who tested positive was actively involved in all mass and church activities while having symptoms for a week so exposure is possible."The woman remains ill and is now in quarantine at home. The post goes on to explain that exposure was possible for anyone who went to mass in the past two weeks, which includes some 16 different services. It's unclear how many people that totals, but one parishioner tells ABC 10News pre-pandemic attendance for bigger masses numbered in the dozens. The apparent positive test comes amid coronavirus shutdown orders banning indoor church services in the county. The Diocese says the pastor, Father Enrique Fuentes, received a coronavirus test. Any outdoor masses won't take place until the result is known.According to the Diocese, the county has not yet contacted the church about the positive case, but the pastor decided to go ahead and close the church for deep cleaning and inform other volunteers she was in contact with. 1539
