But thanks to generous sponsors, the organization is helping hundreds of homeless veterans this weekend. The three-day event is being held at San Diego High School. More than 700 veterans are expected to participate in the event throughout the weekend. A variety of services is being offered. Some veterans say they are in desperate need of housing, while others tell 10News they are just fighting to keep the roofs they already have over their heads. “I’m minding my own business, next thing I hear knocks on the door ‘hey you can’t park here,’” says Vietnam Veteran Robert Ewing who was given 15 parking tickets for his motor home in the last three months. “That’s why I’m here trying to get rid of these.”Ewing says it has been a struggle trying to find a safe place to park his motor home. Among a variety of services, Homeless Court is being provided at the annual Stand Down event. “The City Council needs to sleep on the streets for a couple of nights and see what the homeless go through. It’s no joke,” says Ewing. For more than three decades, the Veterans Village of San Diego has been putting together this event. It brings in more than 100 organizations to help the homeless. "Three years ago, we got that phone call, that our son was murdered,” Munoz said. That single phone call changed the Munoz family forever. Their son, 18-year-old Juan Carlos Munoz Jr. was shot and killed while sitting in a parked car on Prospect Street in National City. “We didn't know what to do, we didn't know where to go get help, and we didn't know how to move on in life,” Munoz said. The shooter and driver got away. Lost in the confusion, heartbreak, and an endless cycle of ‘what-ifs’ the Munoz family found the group, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice. “We don't want any parent to join this group, because that means they lost a loved one, but this group is needed for those victims have nowhere else to turn,” Munoz said. That is why he and his wife created the San Diego chapter. 'Loss' is the only criterion for membership into this exclusive group. But sadly it is growing. On the last day on national Crime Victims Right’s Week, the San Diego chapter welcomed all members. (KGTV) - As COVID-19 cases continue to increase nationwide, the demand for testing grows.CVS Pharmacy has been providing free drive-thru testing sites across San Diego County, but some have reported significant delays in receiving test results.“I thought I would try CVS because they’re popping up all over for free testing and very convenient drive-thru,” said San Diego resident Michelle Naidenoff.“It’s a self-administered test, had the test done, was given a sheet originally it said 2-4 days for results, and then they had crossed it out the time of the testing and said it could be up to 10 days.”Ten days later, Naidenoff still had no answers.“Then, on the 16th day, I called, and I was on hold a couple of times,” she said after being left on hold for too long, she hung up.Five hours later, Naidenoff said her negative test result popped up on the online website.“16 days, I’m thinking it’s basically useless,” she said. “When it comes to slowing the virus down, obviously contact tracing is very important.
