Amid a venomous political atmosphere, the two leading candidates for governor in Utah are making it a point to be civil in the final weeks before the election.Republican Spencer Cox and Democrat Chris Peterson stood side by side in a pair of public service announcements intended to tone down the political rhetoric. Cox, the state’s current lieutenant governor, is largely considered the frontrunner to win the race.“We can debate issues without degrading each other’s character,” Peterson said in the 30-second ad. ARCADIA (CNS) - A 2-year-old colt collapsed onto the turf during Sunday's third race at Santa Anita Park and was euthanized a short time later, becoming the first fatality of the track's racing season, which began Saturday."During race 3 at Santa Anita Park, Ebeko sustained an injury to his left front leg. Ebeko was immediately attended to by track veterinarians and triaged on the turf course. Given the extent of the fracture and the nature of the injury, it was unfortunately determined that it was an unrecoverable injury," Santa Anita announced.Ebeko was trailing the entire race, and fell face-first into the turf after his injury. He was trained by Peter Miller, and was ridden Sunday by jockey Joel Rosario. Rosario was examined by Santa Anita's first-aid staff and although he missed race 4, he was cleared to ride the remainder of the afternoon.Santa Anita debuted a new turf course chute on Saturday, but Sunday's third race did not take place on that course, according to track publicist Mike Willman.Ebeko will undergo a necropsy at UC Davis' school of veterinary medicine, as is mandatory for all on-track fatalities."The accident and the necropsy report will be reviewed by a team to learn what, if anything, could have been done to have prevented the accident," Santa Anita said.The track had just marked an opening day record pari-mutuel handle on Saturday, despite fans being barred from attending due to the coronavirus pandemic. ARVADA, Colo. — At 90 years old, Ken Felts is writing about his old life and is now living his new one."There's myself Ken, who's a straight man and then my inner self Larry, who is a gay man," Felts said.Felts has hidden that part of himself from the world his whole life."I was doing my best to be straight and I thought I was, it's just not possible unless you really are," he said.Felts recently wrote a message on Facebook to friends and family."The message was: I am out, I am gay, I am free," Felts said of the post.It was a weight lifted off his shoulders. Since the age of 12, he's kept his sexuality hidden. In his 20s, Felts had a secret relationship with a man named Phillip."I had this terrible dichotomy of what's right and what's wrong," Felts said.After nine months, Felts skipped town, leaving Phillip behind. Felts would go on to have a family, becoming a husband, father, and grandfather.After being divorced for 40 years, Felts continued to search for Phillip. An investigator even reached out offering to help find Phillip after his coming out.On Thursday night, Felts found out Phillip died two years ago."I'm sorry I waited so long. ANDERSON, Ind. -- A mother and stepfather in Indiana are accused of locking their children in a basement without food, water or a place to go to the bathroom.Connie and her husband Javier Campos were arrested over the weekend and charged with four counts of neglect of a dependent. The investigation began back in November 2017 when a 13-year-old boy ran away from home and was found at a local hotel. At the time, the investigator contacted the Department of Child Services because he believed the children may be in need of services. According to court documents, the couple had four children living in their home ages 13, 11, 10 and 8.The children told investigators that their mother and step-father would lock three of them in the basement of their home any time the adults would leave the house or go to bed.The children described using a bucket and bottle if they needed to go to the bathroom or holding it until morning.  “You go before, hold it or it sucks to be you,” the 13-year-old child told investigators.Each of the children had a bed in their upstairs bedrooms, according to court documents, but they were only there “in case CPS came then they would think we sleep there.” 1217
