They enjoy our classic pizza. It's never changed," said Raso. “We make meatballs, spaghetti, lasagna. They've been cooking all day.”La Bella Pizza Garden now has three generations of family history. Raso’s son Michael works alongside his father. He will eventually take over the business. He says their customers are family too. “When I'm working up front, they come in and say my grandparents came here, we come here, our kids come here, You can't stop that, you've got to keep it going," said Michael Raso. (KGTV) – The Chula Vista Elementary School District’s appearance on a website list of applicants seeking to reopen schools was determined to be a mistake, the district told ABC 10News.CVESD never applied for a waiver, stating on their Facebook page on Thursday night:“We are aware of a ‘Chula Vista Elementary’ fraudulently being listed as an applicant for a school reopening waiver. Our District has NOT applied for a waiver to reopen our schools. As a part of the waiver process, we would consult with labor units, parents and community organizations first. Our District is working with investigative authorities to determine how documents were submitted purporting ‘Chula Vista Elementary’ is a waiver applicant with the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency.”District officials said the 2020-21 school year will begin Aug. 31 with distance learning.On Friday, a district spokesperson told ABC 10News that the listing was the result of an error made by an independent charter school that selected the Chula Vista district name on the San Diego County Health and Human Services website.The spokesperson said the HHSA informed the district of the mistake and the website has since been corrected.Meanwhile, at least 27 schools in San Diego County have already been given the green light to begin in-person learning, with dozens of other schools still waiting for approval.Those schools that have been approved have several things in common, including the ability to maximize outdoor space.The Rancho Santa Fe School District is on the list of those that can bring students back to campus, and Superintendent Donna Tripi said preparing for this was not an easy task."We had to work on the class groupings, we had to do training for staff, training for parents, we had to write up all the protocols and really think out every move that everyone makes on campus,” Tripi said.San Diego County was removed for California's virus monitoring list on Aug. 18, beginning the 14-day countdown the county needs to stay off the list in order to reopen K-12 schools in-person.On-campus classes could resume as soon as Sept. 1, depending on the school district. 2188

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Parents at Eastlake High School are asking the Sweetwater Union High School District board to investigate a math teacher that students accuse of making inappropriate comments. The parents say the issue started last spring when the teacher made comments about erectile dysfunction in class. Other parents say the teacher hardly teaches, forcing their kids to fall behind. Dan Huslin, a parent of an Eastlake High sophomore, said the school's principal told him last year the teacher was suspended, but this year he found out he's back in the classroom. Huslin said when he asked about why he returned, the current principal told him the district was providing the teacher counseling to help him improve. On Monday night, parents spoke at a Sweetwater district meeting and asked the board to investigate and remove the teacher. Also, parents asked the district to provide math tutoring for the students who are now behind. A district spokesperson told 10News the teacher was not suspended last year and was instead out for personal reasons, adding that they couldn't comment on whether the teacher is receiving any counseling because it is a personnel matter. The spokesperson did say the parents concerns are being addressed, but wouldn't specify how. 1288

CINCINNATI -- By choosing to end her treatment for advanced cervical cancer, Alicia Alexander accepted that she would die. Her plan now, she said, is to "make the best of every day" and help her four children prepare for her departure.To that end, she paid a lawyer ,000 up-front to begin putting her affairs in order, handle the future custody of her children and make sure they would have a source of income after her death.After she made the payment, the line went silent. Alexander said on Monday night she hadn't consistently heard from the attorney since April 3. In the meantime, she's received incorrect documents and excuses in response to her requests for communication.As far as she can tell, "he's swamped," she said."He has a booked schedule or he can't get the other attorney on the phone or the magistrate's out," she said. "I'll call his office, and they'll say he's out of town. He'll say he's been sick. It's never his fault. I know it's not my fault. I don't know what else I can do."Attorney Cathy Cook, who is not involved in Alexander's case, said it was highly unusual for anyone practicing family law to be as uncommunicative as the attorney in question. Her office "never goes more than a week without an update" for the client, she said, and connects them with multiple lines of contact in case their primary attorney is unavailable.Alexander's doctors predicted in June she might have as little as a year left to spend with her children and make plans for their futures. She doesn't have time to waste.For clients like her, Cook said, the only remaining step is to contact the local bar association."See if they have any knowledge of anything that could be going wrong, and if they don't, then you're going to have to file what we call a grievance," she said.Doing so would take even more time that Alexander can't spare, and it could end with her back in the same position: Ill, running out of money and trying to distribute the remains of a fast-ending life."I really just want to live every day as best I can, and worry about this stuff every day … it's a burden," she said. "To come up with thousands of dollars all over again just to do something I've already paid to have done is a really bitter pill to swallow."When WCPO reached out to Alexander's attorney, he said he checks his messages constantly and was handling her case appropriately. However, other clients have made similar complaints about him online.
