BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Tuesday that China and the United States will start preparations as soon as possible for the second round of the China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) scheduled for next summer in Beijing.     China and the United States will continue implementing the agreements reached at the first round of the dialogue last July in Washington, Hu said in remarks to reporters after talks with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two leaders spoke positively during the talks of the importance of the strategic and economic dialogue mechanism in strengthening mutual trust and cooperation between the two nations, he said.     Both leaders believed that close high-level contacts and other dialogues and consultations at various levels are essential to the development of bilateral relations, said the Chinese president.     The two sides agreed to keep close communication through visits, phone calls, letters and meetings during multilateral events, Hu said.

BEIJING, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- In cold weather, 45 Japanese war orphans revisiting China to thank their Chinese foster families received a warm welcome in Beijing.     Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met them, mostly in their seventies, in the Zhongnanhai compound Wednesday. Premier Wen invited the orphans to Zhongnanhai for talks and also accompanied them on a visit to the former residence and office of the late Premier Zhou Enlai inside the compound, who were much concerned about the war orphanage issue. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Tuesday he and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama agreed during their talks to resolve the nuclear issues of the Korean Peninsula and Iran through dialogue.     "Both of us remain committed to resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and consultation," Hu said when meeting the press with Obama after their bilateral talks. "Such a commitment serves the common interests of China and the United States and all other parties concerned."     Hu said China and the United States will work with other parties concerned to stick to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the six-party talks process to safeguard the peace and stability of northeast Asia.     The two presidents stressed that it is very important for the stability in the Middle East and the Gulf Region to uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and properly resolve the Iran nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiation, Hu said. 

BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has stressed the importance of independent innovation amid the global financial crisis and called on engineering workers to boost research to serve the country's economic development.     Wu, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark during his visit to the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) on Wednesday.     Every major achievement that China has made could not be realized without technological breakthroughs and innovations contributed by the engineering academicians and experts, Wu said.
