LOS ANGELES (KGTV/CNS) - A person infected with measles passed through Los Angeles International Airport twice in late May and public health officials are urging anyone who may have been exposed to check their immunization records and report any possible symptoms.According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the infected person -- who does not live in the area -- passed through LAX twice during the Memorial Day weekend.Possibly exposure may have occurred:-- between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. May 26 at LAX Terminal 4 at Gate 48B; and-- between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. May 28 at the Tom Bradley International Terminal Remote Gate.Health officials noted that anyone who may have been in those areas may be at risk of developing measles for up to 21 days following exposure.People who think they may have been exposed were urged to check their immunization history and contact their health care provider by phone, particularly if they are pregnant or have a weakened immune system. People who develop possible symptoms, such as illness with fever or an unexplained rash, should stay home and call their health care provider.Southern California doctors have been warning the region to watch out for the illness as cases increase across the U.S. this year. In May, CDC officials said the U.S. had already seen its highest amount of measles cases in three decades. In SoCal, San Diego and Los Angeles have been considered high-risk counties for measles cases."Measles is preventable and the way to end this outbreak is to ensure that all children and adults who can get vaccinated, do get vaccinated. Again, I want to reassure parents that vaccines are safe, they do not cause autism. The greater danger is the disease that vaccination prevents," said CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield.Measles was eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, meaning it was no longer continuously transmitted. So far this year, at least 26 states have seen cases. 1951

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Disgraced former film producer Harvey Weinstein -- who was already charged in Los Angeles with sex-related charges involving three women -- was charged Friday with sexually assaulting two other women in Beverly Hills.Los Angeles County prosecutors filed three new counts each of forcible rape and forcible oral copulation against Weinstein, who is behind bars in New York after being convicted there of sexually assaulting two women. The latest charges involve the alleged rape of a woman at a hotel in Beverly Hills between September 2004 and September 2005 and two alleged attacks on a woman in November 2009 and November 2010 at a hotel in Beverly Hills, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.Weinstein was charged Jan. 6 with one count each of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of force and sexual battery by restraint in connection with alleged crimes involving two women in 2013, and prosecutors subsequently filed a charge of sexual battery by restraint in May involving a third woman at a Beverly Hills hotel in May 2010.Weinstein, 68, could face up to 140 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney's Office.Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a written statement that she is "thankful to the first women who reported these crimes and whose courage have given strength to others to come forward.""The willingness of these latest victims to testify against a powerful man gives us the additional evidence we need to build a compelling criminal case," the county's top prosecutor said.In July, the District Attorney's Office announced that it had filed court papers to move the extradition process forward, and an extradition hearing is set Dec. 11 in Buffalo. It remains unclear exactly how soon Weinstein will be brought to Los Angeles County. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments and the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation. 2050

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Securities and Exchange Commission announced Friday that Calabasas-based Cheesecake Factory Inc. will pay a 5,000 penalty for making "false or misleading" disclosures about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its business operations and financial condition. This is the first time the SEC has brought allegations against a public company for misleading investors about the financial effects of the pandemic.According to the SEC's order, the Cheesecake Factory restaurant group said in regulatory filings in March and April that its eateries were "operating sustainably," while failing to disclose that the company was losing roughly million in cash per week and had just 16 weeks of cash remaining. The order finds that although the company did not disclose the information in its filings, the group did share the particulars with potential private equity investors or lenders as it sought additional liquidity during the public health crisis.Without admitting the SEC's findings, the restaurant company agreed to pay the penalty and to cease-and-desist from further violations of the charged provisions. In determining to accept the settlement, the SEC said it considered the cooperation afforded by the company.A Cheesecake Factory representative pointed to a disclosure form filed Friday in which the company stated it was in full compliance with the cease- and-desist order and that the company "fully cooperated with the SEC in the settlement" without admitting or denying the regulators' allegations. The order also finds that although the March filing described actions the company had undertaken to preserve financial flexibility during the pandemic, it failed to disclose that Cheesecake Factory already had informed its landlords that it would not pay rent in April due to the impacts that COVID- 19 inflicted on its business."During the pandemic, many public companies have discharged their disclosure obligations in a commendable manner, working proactively to keep investors informed of the current and anticipated material impacts of COVID-19 on their operations and financial condition," SEC Chairman Jay Clayton said. "As our local and national response to the pandemic evolves, it is important that issuers continue their proactive, principles-based approach to disclosure, tailoring these disclosures to the firm and industry-specific effects of the pandemic on their business and operations. It is also important that issuers who make materially false or misleading statements regarding the pandemic's impact on their business and operations be held accountable."Cheesecake Factory had notified its landlords that it wouldn't pay rent on April 1 due to financial complications stemming from the coronavirus outbreak. A letter sent by Chief Executive David Overton to the restaurant group's landlords -- many of which are shopping mall operators -- was released publicly in March by Eater L.A.The company has 294 restaurants in North America, 39 in California and five in San Diego County. Its largest landlord is Indianapolis, Indiana-based real estate company Simon Property Group, which provides space for 41 Cheesecake Factory locations, according to the San Fernando Valley Business Journal."When public companies describe for investors the impact of COVID-19 on their business, they must speak accurately," said Stephanie Avakian, director of the SEC's Division of Enforcement. "The Enforcement Division, including the Coronavirus Steering Committee, will continue to scrutinize COVID- related disclosures to ensure that investors receive accurate, timely information, while also giving appropriate credit for prompt and substantial cooperation in investigations." 3725
