House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office is responding to criticism after she got her hair done inside a San Francisco salon, amid a citywide coronavirus restrictions on salons.A statement from her office acknowledges Pelosi and her staff relied on the information provided by someone at the salon about what was allowed by the new city regulations that went into effect last Friday, according to multiple outlets.The statement came after Fox News shared a video showing Pelosi inside the salon. Fox talked to the salon’s owner, Erica Kious, who told the news outlet, “it was a slap in the face” that Pelosi could go in and “get her stuff done” while the owner and others can’t work.Kious said it was an independent stylist who rents a chair from her."This business offered for the speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business," Pelosi's Deputy Chief of Staff Drew Hammill said in the statement. "The speaker complied with the rules as presented to her by this establishment."The statement also says Pelosi wore a mask except for a brief time when she was getting her hair washed.The new restrictions in San Francisco say hair salons can operate outdoors, and that some procedures, like color and chemical treatments, still cannot be done. 1316

That was a staggering number that is a 55% increase than what is thought of as the norm,” DuDell said.So, why the increase? Travel anxiety amid the pandemic is likely a big part of it.“There is so much uncertainty in the world right now, and of course that’s around the pandemic, but there’s other kinds of uncertainty too and I think people feel like they’re taking a strong risk in general when they’re traveling,” DuDell said. "So if they can mitigate risk in other areas, they’re willing to do that, to spend the money behind it.”Leslie Tayne, a financial attorney, author and frequent flier said, “There are a lot of caveats to whether travel insurance for airline purposes makes sense right now and frankly because the airlines allow you to make changes without a cost and last minute, there’s really almost no reason why you would get travel insurance.”She says these days, airlines are more accommodating than ever. And because there's been so much industry disruption surrounding travel, the future is being rewritten now.“I definitely believe they’re going to rewrite the travel insurance, they’re being investigated right now,” Tayne said. “It's being taken up in Congress in terms of the validity of the travel insurance and there’s some concern that travel insurance might be what’s termed either a ‘scam’ or a ‘money-making proposition’ that’s not really beneficial to the consumer.”In March, the House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy launched an investigation into whether travel insurance provided any “meaningful protection” for consumers. The investigation was spurred amid the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, when many travelers were canceling trips as states began implementing stay-at-home orders.“The evidence shows consumers are purchasing standard travel insurance products, thinking they will be covered if they cancel their trip because of coronavirus,” Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), the subcommittee’s chair, said in March. “Yet, companies like Allianz, Travel Guard, and Generali are refusing to cover those claims. In the process they are encouraging dangerous travel.”So, when it comes to whether you "need" that insurance, Tayne says weigh your risks, consider where you're going and what you'll be doing.“My recommendation is to try to understand what the restrictions are and what you could use the insurance for when would it apply to you,” Tayne said.Tayne said if you're in a situation where it makes sense, don't make an insurance decision on emotion. They’re also remembering the government’s response, as they head to the polls to cast their ballots in the upcoming midterm election.“Yes, for the last three and a half years, walking into this house has been very depressing, I would say,” says Houston homeowner Greg Roberts.It hasn’t been easy for the Roberts, who live in Houston’s Meyerland neighborhood."We got flooded out in 2015, 2016, and 2017 with Harvey, as well," Roberts says.The Roberts haven’t lived in this home since it was first flooded in 2015. Harvey brought in more flood damage.Now, the couple is raising their home's foundation higher than the levels Harvey's waters reached. "If you look up and down the streets of this neighborhood and many others, you will find many others that have been lifted or completely demolished," Roberts says.Many residents in the area are preparing for the next storm. But the past isn't lost in this election cycle. "The topic of flooding and recovery from flooding has not left the public conscious for at least the last three years, probably before, especially the past three and a half years,” Roberts says.Roberts says it’s a major talking point for politicians in Texas.After so much flooding, the Roberts say they've already answered another tough question about their future.
