(KGTV) - Sniffling? Sneezing? Despite the blossoms and lush greenery that resulted from our winter rain, San Diego isn’t too bad for allergy sufferers. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America ranked cities on factors including the pollen score, medicine utilization per patient, and board-certified allergists per patient. Overall, San Diego was 88 out of 100 cities, with average scores for pollen and allergists, and above average for medicine utilization. RELATED: Wet winter brings early allergy season to San Diego The worst city in the nation was McAllen, Texas, followed by Jackson, Miss., and Providence, Rhode Island. The worst California city on the list was Fresno at number 31. “Allergies are a major public health concern, with more than 50 million Americans suffering from allergies every year,” according to the AAFA. That number may grow. Climate Central tracked data which suggest climate change may increase in the future."Global warming is extending the freeze-free season, giving plants more time to grow, flower, and produce pollen," according to the Climate Central study. Not only will the growing season last longer, the plants that produce pollen may create more of it.Allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, is triggered by pollen from trees, grass, weeds, or mold spores, the AAFA reports. RELATED: Are you always sad in the spring? Allergy-mood link is real According to Accuweather, San Diego's top pollen producer at the end of March was tree pollen. The AAFA reports trees are the usual allergy culprit in early spring, followed by grasses in late spring. Allergies can cause sneezing, stuffy nose, runny nose, watery eyes, and itching. On days that pollen is high, you can take steps to protect yourself, according to the AAFA.Use air conditioning with HEPA air filtrationWear a hatWash your hair before going to bedChange your clothes after outdoor activitiesLimit contact with pets that spend time outdoors, and wipe them off with a towel when they come insideUse a nasal flush to rinse out inhaled pollenTake off your shoes when you come indoors 2097

(KGTV) - San Diegans looking to find a new job - or get a better one - will soon have a new resource to help them get there. Goodwill Industries San Diego is finishing a more than 4,000 square-foot job training center in San Ysidro, which it plans to open Sept. 13. The 0,000 facility is replacing the organization's rack store at 630 Front St. in San Ysidro, which moved to a new location. The center will offer free career counseling, meeting spaces for interviews, open computers, and even job fairs - all free to San Diegans looking for work, or a bigger paycheck. RELATED: California is the sixth-worst state for retirement."So even if they get a job, that job that just puts food on the table, we want them to continue to come to us so that we can support them, so they can get that better job," said Toni Giffin, CEO of Goodwill Industries of San Diego County. The state reports that there are still about 58,000 San Diegans who are unemployed, even with the jobless rate near a record low of 3.7 percent. That number does not include San Diegans who would like more hours, or whose jobs don't pay enough to make ends meet. Ken Joy, 75, is currently living with his sister in La Mesa. Social Security is his only income. He would like to move out, but first, he needs a job. RELATED: San Diego City Council passes ordinance to prevent affordable housing discrimination"I want to do something four hours or five hours a day part time, and have time to do things that I enjoy doing otherwise," said Joy, who is honing his computer skills at one of Goodwill's other job training centers.Goodwill currently has four job training centers in the county - in Oceanside, Escondido, Point Loma, and Chula Vista. That Chula Vista location, on Broadway, will close when the new center in San Ysidro opens.Goodwill also offers training in the following areas: 1910

(KGTV) - Suspected drug smugglers were rescued by U.S. Coast Guard crews this month after their vessel erupted into flames before sinking.Crews from the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (AMO), the U.S. Navy ship USS Zephyr, and the Colombian Navy ship ARC "07 de Agosto" detected the high-speed vessel on April 7 in the eastern Pacific Ocean. As crews prepared to intercept the vessel, the suspected smugglers allegedly began abandoning their cargo and jumped from the boat as it caught fire.Crews rescued four suspected smugglers and spent 90 minutes extinguishing the flames."There was no doubt in our minds what needed to be done to salvage the evidence needed for a successful prosecution even if it meant laying Zephyr alongside a burning hull, with the intense heat and acrid smoke hindering our 90-minute firefight," Lt. Cmdr. Grant Greenwell, the commanding officer of the Zephyr, said. After putting out the fire, crews say they recovered about 1,080 pounds of cocaine. The four suspected smugglers were transferred to custody aboard the Zephyr. The suspected drug vessel was severely damaged and sunk as it was a hazard to navigation. 1195

(KGTV) - One of America's most iconic boy bands will be immortalized on the streets of Los Angeles.*NSYNC, comprised of Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Justin Timberlake, will be awarded the 2,636th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next month. The band joins other notable boy bands Backstreet Boyz, Boyz II Men, New Kids on the Block, and New Edition on the coveted sidewalk hall. For fans hoping for an alignment between the real world and memes, you're out of luck. The ceremony will take place on April 30, not in May. The internet has long-celebrated the arrival of May with a meme featuring Timberlake and the words "It's gonna be May," a callback to the band's hit "It's Gonna Be Me."*NSYNC burst onto the music scene with singles such as "I Want You Back," "I Drive Myself Crazy," and "Bye Bye Bye." The band remained at the top of music charts for much of the late 1990s and early 2000s, before going on hiatus in 2002.Since they started singing together, the band has sold more than 30 million records in the U.S. and another 42 million worldwide.“*NSYNC fans have been patiently waiting for their favorite group to set a date and we are announcing the date earlier than usual so they can start making plans to visit Hollywood and see *NSYNC” Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies, said. 1372
