SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The public will be able to weigh in on the proposed placement of a sexually violent predator (SVP) in north San Diego County.Earlier this month, the state’s Department of State Hospitals (DSH) proposed Joshua Cooley be placed at a property in Pauma Valley.On Oct. 9, at 8:30 a.m., a hearing on Cooley's placement will be available for viewing at https://www.humboldt.courts.ca.gov/.Those interested in submitting a public comment for the hearing can do so between Sept. 15-23. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The oldest San Diego women's choir is scrambling to raise funds for a last-second trip to sing at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Ceremony. The Choral Club of San Diego dazzled crowds from veterans homes to Spreckles Organ Pavillion. They've been singing since 1939."It was a very private women's group. They all got together in their homes and they had tea," Executive Director Caron Andregg said, painting the picture of what the club looked like back then. In 2012, they officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit and over the past five years they've been tuning to a more modern note."We've filtered out a lot of the older traditional music and we started filtering in more modern music," Andregg said.She said the crowds have loved it and they've ran with it, gaining notoriety and ultimately an invite to the Pearl Harbor Memorial Ceremony. Andregg added someone personally recommended the club to the organizers of the event on Honolulu."Getting 25 ladies to Hawaii is no small task," Music Director Kyle Adam Blair said. The group has been frantically making calls for two weeks, but are not gaining any traction."I can't even get people to pick up their phones ... That's why we're panicking and asking you for help," Andregg said.The club is stepping in after an East Coast choir suffered a misfortune and couldn't perform.Andregg said they are honored for the opportunity to be the only vocal ensemble."We're from a Navy town and we have a relationship with the Midway and we have relationships with other Naval outlets, we've performed for Naval ceremonies," she said.The group needs to raise ,000 in a month so they can book the flights and lodging for the choir members. 1706

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- This past March, as schools shut down and distance learning started, Richard Cowan and his family were one of hundreds who didn't have internet access."We were actually using mobile hot spots or venturing to the library," Cowan said. Then he learned about Connect2Compete, a program through Cox Communications that gave families free internet to start followed by a low cost plan. "We've been able to enhance, and better be prepared for school and a different curriculum that they're requiring now."Cox Communications Vice President of Government and Public Affairs, Chanelle Hawken, said it's just one of the ways they continued to help students stay connected for the fall. "We've put a lot of resources time and energy to connect kids."Cox also partnered with David Harp's Foundation, a music school for low income and at-risk kids. "For them, its even harder in this distance learning environment. They may not be getting the support of family members to help them stay online," Hawken said. They turned the East Village campus into a digital hub with free wifi for underprivilaged students."It's a new world I'll say and we're looking at ways to be creative. Just working one-on-one with school districts to see if they need devices because we have our grant with computers or to see if kids need a connection."They also had Cox wifi hotspots scattered throughout the county for free, at the start of the school year."It's been a community effort where people are chipping in to make sure kids are ready for back to school, I know its so stressful for parents right now," Hawken concluded. 1622

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The US Marine Corps is responding after a pilot made an inappropriate flight pattern over the Salton Sea. According to a statement from Major Josef Patterson, the pilot flew in a pattern resembling a "phallic image."The T-34C aircraft is assigned to the Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. An investigation is underway and, at this time, it's unclear whether or not any disciplinary action will be taken. Read the full statement below:  524

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department gave 10News a behind the scenes look at the specially-trained team that solves arson cases. Inside Station One is the elite and highly specialized Metro Arson Strike Team, or MAST, made up of fire investigators, police detectives, ATF, FBI and a bomb squad. The team is dedicated solely to investigate arson. To be on the specialized team, MAST training goes beyond the fire academy. “You are wearing the hat of an electrical engineer, a scientist, a fire fighter, a report writer. We wear a lot of different hats and we have to be good at it,” said Captain James Shadoan. MAST spent the day with 10News demonstrating how they perform the task of solving an arson.
