If you are looking to avoid being quarantined in Hawaii for up to 14 days due to COVID-19, United Airlines and Hawaii Airlines are looking to make it easier on you by offering same-day COVID-19 tests at the airports. On Thursday, United announced that beginning Oct. 15, passengers traveling from San Francisco to Hawaii can either take a rapid test at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or a self-collected, mail-in test ahead of their trip.If you opt for the self-collected test, you must submit your sample within 72 hours of travel via overnight mail or an airport dropbox, United said."Our new COVID testing program is another way we are helping customers meet their destinations' entry requirements, safely and conveniently," said Toby Enqvist, Chief Customer Officer at United in the press release. "We'll look to quickly expand customer testing to other destinations and U.S. airports later this year to complement our state-of-the-art cleaning and safety measures that include a mandatory mask policy, antimicrobial and electrostatic spraying and our hospital-grade HEPA air filtration systems."On Friday, Hawaii Airlines announced that passengers traveling to Hawaii from Los Angeles (LAX) or the Bay Area would be able to use drive-through services at Worksite Labs locations near LAX and SFO."As Hawai'i's leading airline, it is critical to ensure that access to testing does not impede travel to Hawai'i, for visitors or our kama‘āina (residents)," said Avi Mannis, senior vice president of marketing at Hawaiian Airlines in a press release. "Our testing option will offer Los Angeles and Bay Area travelers superior value, and we look forward to expanding the program and bringing additional choices to more of our gateway cities as we welcome guests back with our industry-leading Hawaiian hospitality while keeping our community safe. We're grateful to the state of Hawai'i for its partnership in developing the pre-travel testing program."You have the option to pay either for results within 36 hours or 0 for same-day results, the airliner said. The company said the Droplet Digital PCR shallow nasal swab tests do meet Hawaii's testing requirements. 2193

In a state that has had instances of young black men being shot by police while handling a BB gun, one officer in Ohio was thankful he did not pull the trigger on an 11-year-old he spotted carrying a BB gun. According to the Columbus Division of Police, Officer Peter Casuccio was dispatched to a scene on Saturday to a gun run. When he arrived, Casuccio found an 11-year-old carrying a BB gun as he was walking with a 13-year-old companion. At the scene, Casuccio expressed his frustration that he nearly shot the unidentified 11-year-old. The exchange was captured on Casuccio's police-issued body camera. "This is getting kids killed all over the country," Casuccio said.Casuccio explained to the boy that police got a call of a boy matching the 11-year-old's description holding a gun. "I didn't show anybody it,' I was just holding it like this," the boy said."You can't do that," the officer responded. "That thing looks real.""Do you think I want to shoot an 11-year-old? Do you think I want to shoot a 13-year-old? Do I honestly look like the kind of dude who wants to shoot anybody?" Casuccio said. "But do I look like the type of dude who would shoot somebody?"The boys respond, "Yes, sir." Casuccio then explains the incident to the 11-year-old's mother. "I pulled up and I’m not gonna lie, I drew down on them. He freaks out and he starts to pull the gun out of his waistband," the officer told the mother. "He could have shot you for that, you know that?” the mother could be heard saying. "He dropped it real fast, and I didn't know it was a BB gun until hit the sidewalk," Casuccio said. In recent years, Ohio has had several notable instances of police shooting young black men carrying BB guns as officers believed the weapons were real. Some of those incidents have led to protests in those respective communities. On Aug. 5, 2014, 22-year-old John Crawford III was fatally wounded after he was seen inside a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio carrying a BB gun. Officers Sean Williams and David Darkow were not criminally charged in connection to Crawford's death. Three months later in Cleveland, 12-year-old Tamir Rice was seen in a park "pointing a pistol" at people in the park. In the call to police, the witness did state that the weapon was "probably fake." Moments later, Officer Timothy Loehmann fatally wounded Rice. Loehmann was not criminally charged in Rice's death, but was later fired in 2017 after Cleveland Police discovered that he had lied on his job application. The City of Cleveland paid the Rice family a million settlement. In 2016 in Columbus, the same department Casuccio works for, Tyre King, 13, was shot and killed in the back by Officer Bryan Mason after police said King brandished an air gun. Mason was reportedly investigating a robbery at the time of the incident. A grand jury declined to charge Mason criminally for the shooting. There is a pending lawsuit by King's family against the City of Columbus.  3153

If you're in your mid-40s and haven't had your colon checked, it might be time. The American Cancer Society's newly updated guidelines for colon and rectal cancer screening recommend that adults at average risk get screened starting at age 45 instead of 50, as previously advised. The updated guidelines come on the heels of what seems to be a rise in colorectal cancer among younger adults. Those at higher risk include African Americans, Alaska Natives, and people with a family history or a personal history of colon or rectal polyps; risk factors such as these could require screening earlier.Published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians on Wednesday, the updated guidelines also indicate that there are six screening test options for adults, ranging from noninvasive stool tests to visual exams like colonoscopy, depending on the preference of the patient and availability of the test.Other health organizations in the United States -- such as the US Preventive Services Task Force -- still recommend routine screening for colon and rectal cancers starting at age 50. 1081

HOUSTON, Texas – A businessman in Texas is facing federal charges after allegedly spending COVID-19 relief funds on improper expenses, including on real estate, a Lamborghini Urus and at strip clubs.Federal officials announced Tuesday that Lee Price III, 29, was taken into custody and charged with making false statements to a financial institution, wire fraud, bank fraud and engaging in unlawful monetary transactions.Price is accused of fraudulently obtaining more than .6 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. The loans provided by the Small Business Administration (SBA) are meant to support business owners struggling during the pandemic. Businesses must use the loan proceeds for payroll costs, interest on mortgages, rent and utilities.A criminal complaint alleges Price was involved in a scheme to submit fraudulent PPP loan applications to federally insured banks and other lenders, two of which received funding.Price Enterprises Holdings allegedly received more than 0,000, while a loan application listing 713 Construction was approved for over 0,000.The loan applications allegedly asserted both entities each had numerous employees and significant payroll expenses. However, neither entity has employees nor pays wages consistent with the amounts claimed in the loan applications, authorities say.Further, the individual listed as CEO on the 713 Construction loan application died in April 2020, a month before the application was submitted, according to the complaint.Price allegedly used the loan proceeds not for payroll expenses, but for lavish personal purchases, such as spending the loan money on a Lamborghini Urus, a Rolex watch and real estate transactions. He also allegedly spent thousands at strip clubs and other Houston night clubs. The complaint further alleges Price used a portion of the loan money to buy a 2020 Ford F-350 pickup truck. 1901

If you've ever had a surgical procedure, you know it can often mean a high hospital bill. Now, more people are turning to surgery centers for a lower cost.Sandi Bowen is one of those people.Something as simple as picking out a shirt is more challenging for Bowen than she ever thought it'd be. On Easter, she found a lump in her breast. Doctors told her it was cancer."It was very very very confusing," Bowen says. "It still is. It brings tears to my eyes, because I don't understand how I got it."Instead of a lumpectomy, she decided to remove her entire breast. And instead of going to a hospital for breast reconstruction, Bowen opted for the Kaiser Permanente Ambulatory Surgery Center, where she got the surgery. In less than 24 hours, she was back home recovering.  "I felt very special," Bowen says. "They were there every time I moved. They came in and talked to me, even goofed around with me."Dr. Mike Sawyer, the director at the center, says they've worked hard to address concerns regarding patient care."If it's a patient that just needs physicians to kind of come to the bedside, and maybe we have to have some kind of intervention, we're able to do that because are here and we are present," Dr. Sawyer says. "On site, as they say. If it's really something that requires a higher level of care, that again allows us to do a pretty quick transfer process over to one of our partner hospitals."Compared with hospitals, Kaiser Permanente says its patients are seeing an average cost savings of 30 percent on their procedures. It can be anything from simple orthopedic procedure to joint procedures. However, Dr. Sawyer says there are important questions you need to ask before determining if a surgery center is the best option for you."Does your physician feel comfortable with this operation there?" Dr. Sawyer says. "Have you and your physician discussed all the ramifications of that procedure? And then what sort of plans does that ambulatory surgery center have if you were required a higher level of care?" 2037
