A University of Utah senior missing for more than a week was last seen at a park where she met someone in a car, Salt Lake City police said.Mackenzie Lueck, 23, arrived at Salt Lake City International Airport on June 17 after visiting family.She then took a Lyft to Hatch Park in North Salt Lake, where she was last seen in the early-morning hours."Mackenzie was met at Hatch Park by an individual in a vehicle. The Lyft driver left Mackenzie at the park with that person and stated that Mackenzie did not appear to be in any type of distress," Assistant Police Chief Tim Doubt told reporters on Monday.Doubt said detectives are canvassing the area around the park and are looking for video surveillance. He said police have not yet confirmed the make or model of the car or obtained a description of the person."To date the family and her friends have not heard from her," Doubt said. Police confirmed she missed a flight to Los Angeles on the morning of June 23. He said Lueck, who lives in an apartment in Salt Lake City, also missed a midterm exam."At this time there is no evidence that any harm has come to her. However because of the circumstances of the case we want to make sure that she is all right."Police said Lyft and the Lyft driver have cooperated with the investigation. The Lyft driver confirmed the route Lueck took and said she met someone after she was dropped off.Lyft said that the route had no irregularities and ended at the destination Lueck entered. The driver continued providing rides immediately after the ride ended, the company said."We recognize how scary this must be for those who know and love Ms. Lueck," Lyft said. "The safety of our community is fundamental to Lyft and we are actively assisting law enforcement with their investigation."Authorities believe her phone has not been on since June 17. They haven't been able to find its location, police said.Police said that sometimes missing people don't want to be reached. A weather system heading toward the Gulf Coast now has a 90% chance of becoming a tropical storm, putting cities from Houston to Mobile, Alabama on alert and prompting oil rig evacuations in the Gulf of Mexico.The low-pressure system is now over the Florida panhandle, but is expected to travel into the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, where it will meet warm, open waters that will fuel the storm's intensity, according to CNN meteorologist Haley Brink.There, it has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical storm over the next 48 hours, according to the National Hurricane Center. AKRON, Ohio — More than 200 Ellet High School students received their diplomas Friday night at Akron Civic Theatre in Ohio. Among them was an 87-year-old man getting an honorary diploma, 70 years after he left school for the military.Floyd Edward Hoskins, known to friends and family members as Ed, left Ellet High School in 1949 at age 17 to join the military.“Three years, three months, 19 days,” Hoskins said of his total time in the Army. During that time, he said, he was supposed to serve in Korea but was sent to Alaska for two years instead.When he came home, Hoskins said he initially had trouble finding a job but eventually landed one at Goodyear Tire and Rubber, where he worked for “44 years, four months, three weeks and one day.”Hoskins moved to Hawaii two years ago to live with one of his sons and his daughter-in-law. His daughter-in-law, Cynthia Allen Hoskins, began doing some research into veterans’ benefits.“We are retired military, my husband and I,” Cynthia Allen Hoskins said. “And we were doing some research as far as our kids and their benefits in order to continue their college education.”She ran across information about the benefits the State of Ohio provides to veterans, where she learned her father-in-law might be eligible to receive his high school diploma. Airlines are holding off on orders for Boeing's 737 Max — the latest sign of how deeply the company's best-selling jet has been thrown into crisis.Boeing released data Tuesday that showed only 10 of the planes were ordered in the first two months of 2019. There were no orders in March, the month that a 737 Max jet flown by Ethiopian Airlines pilots crashed in that country, killing everyone aboard. It was the second fatal crash involving a Max in recent months.That small number compares to 112 orders for the plane in the first quarter of 2018. At that time, Southwest Airlines had ordered 40 of the jets, while Ryanair ordered 25.Orders for Boeing's other commercial jets actually increased slightly. The company sold 85 other commercial jets last quarter, compared to 68 a year earlier. But the sales data for the Max gives the clearest picture yet of how much scrutiny of that model could be hurting Boeing's bottom line.Investigators are still probing the cause of the Ethiopian crash, as well as the other Max crash involving a Lion Air jet last October. The two accidents killed 346 people in all, and eventually prompted the grounding of all 737 Max planes last month. Boeing also halted deliveries and announced last week that it was scaling back production of the 737 Max.The focus of the crash investigations is the plane's automatic safety system, for which Boeing says it is developing a software fix. The fatal crashes are not the only cause of the sales drop, said Richard Aboulafia, aerospace analyst for the Teal Group. He attributed much of the change to the massive number of orders for the next generation of single-aisle jets that both Boeing and rival Airbus had previously booked.Airbus actually had worse first quarter orders for its A320, its 737 Max competitor."This is the mother of all frontloaded markets," said Aboulafia.Boeing has orders for 5,000 of the 737 Max jets on its books already. So far only one airline, Indonesia's Garuda, has outright canceled an order for 50 of the 737 Max jets since the grounding.Boeing also said Tuesday that all 737 deliveries in the first quarter fell by a third, to 89 from 132 a year ago. But most of that drop was caused by the reduced production and delivery of the older version of the 737 jet that Boeing is still building for some customers.
