SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Carlos family is hoping surveillance video will help track down the man recorded making himself comfortable in their home.Along Wallsey Drive, the Meduna family got a heart-sinking scare the day before Halloween.Around 8:30 a.m, Megan Meduna and her husband both got a notification that their garage door was open.  Inside the home, a camera was recording an intruder. Meduna says the man had pried open a window screen in the front and forced open a window.  A sound heard in the video is the burglar opening the door to the garage, before he's seen shutting the window he just climbed through. As he puts on his gloves, he walks up to the camera and flips it over."It's just creepy, creepy to see someone in my house sneaking around," said Meduna.By the time police arrived, the man was gone. He got away with only a little bit of cash, but the impact was felt across a neighborhood.  Surveillance video showed him casing the area.  Minutes before the break-in, a neighbor reported seeing the man knocking at her door, then pretending to need directions when she answered the door.  At another home, a ripped screen was found near a side window and an out-of-place brick was discovered outside another window.Neighbors are now wondering if the same man could be linked to other burglaries. A few weeks ago and blocks away, 10News reported on a break-in with a similar MO that left a newlywed couple missing wedding gifts and family heirlooms.  A month ago, there was a another burglary at Meduna's home, in which electronics and jewelry were taken."Feel violated and angry. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A quarter-acre vegetation fire burning in Alpine broke out around 9 p.m. Wednesday night near Peutz Valley Rd.According to CalFire, the Peutz Fire burned six different areas which are difficult to reach. CalFire says ground crew stopped the forward rate of spread on all six spots by 11 p.m.  350

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new monolith was supposed to be unveiled at a Scripps Ranch shopping center on Wednesday, but it was found destroyed hours before the introduction ceremony.Several weeks ago, a mysterious monolith appeared at the Scripps Ranch Marketplace, attracting crowds and raising questions like where it came from and who put it there.However, several days later, the monolith was removed by a group of teenagers.The theft of the monolith was disappointing for many, including Nutmeg Bakery & Café co-owner Drew Hoffus. He told ABC 10News that his business not only had a first-class view of the monolith, but it helped bring in customers.“This year has been a challenge for everyone … The landmarks helped us out a lot. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A jury deadlocked Friday on two key charges regarding a drunk driving crash that killed a Lyft driver on SR-94.Steven Quintero was charged with six counts including murder and gross vehicular manslaughter in the Oct. 1 death of 41-year-old Henry Reyes of Escondido.The jury reached verdicts on four counts, finding Quintero guilty of DUI causing injury, DUI, hit and run with death, and driving on a suspended license. The judge declared a mistrial on the murder and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.RELATED: Testimony in Lyft?driver's death continuesReyes was taking three women home from a night downtown when the crash happened. One of the women became ill and Reyes pulled over on the shoulder of SR-94 near 28th St. to give her some water.Minutes later, the Lyft car was hit from behind by Quintero’s car. Reyes, an aspiring dentist and the father of a 2-year-old child, was killed as he walked around the car to get back in."I was hit so hard I didn't know where I was," said passenger Kelly Hoffman, who was on the phone in the backseat when the collision occurred. Hoffman testified that she had a broken bone of the top of her foot, whiplash of the neck, and a concussion.Passenger Sarah Smith, who had cuts to her chin, a neck injury and a bruised spine, said she has no memory of the crash.At Quintero's arraignment, Deputy District Attorney Cally Bright said the murder count was warranted because a previous charge of driving under the influence was filed against the defendant in November 2015, and because he allegedly left the scene of the fatal crash. 1604
