SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -San Diego is expecting the most powerful Santa Ana winds of the season this week. The winds are expected to pick up late Tuesday into Thursday. Cal Fire is urging residents not to let their guard down, but cautions, this is not the time to start clearing defensible space. "This week we really want people to tap the brakes on going out and clearing their property, we don't want them to start the next fire trying to do the right thing, the wrong way, at the wrong time, so please don't clear your property this week, focus on having an evacuation plan so you can get your family members, pets and livestock out when the need arises," said Captain Thomas Shoots, Public Information Officer for Cal Fire San Diego.RELATED: Check 10News Pinpoint Weather ConditionsFirefighters from San Diego, Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, and Cal Fire are helping to fight the fires in Sonoma County and the Getty Fire in Los Angeles. Still, Shoots said there is no strain on local resources. "We know that a lot of times, this time of year, we'll have multiple major events happen at the same time, so we can send out plenty of resources and still be staffed up in San Diego so we are watching that very closely and we want to make sure that if anything takes off here we have plenty of resources to draw from," said Captain Shoots. Crews are able to monitor all the fire activity across the state from the command center at the Cal Fire Headquarters in Rancho San Diego. "Regionally, we're looking pretty good, we're fortunate that both fires that we had on Friday we were able to jump on it, put a ton of resources on it, and we were able to stop those before they became major incidents," said Captain Shoots. According to Shoots, this has been a mild fire season compared to last year. "We continue to see fires this year, but most people haven't heard about a lot of the fires that we've had because we've been able to keep them small. With Cal Fire, our goal is to keep 95% of the fires at 10 acres or less, and we've been fortunate with that this year because the conditions have been milder," said Shoots. Right now, Cal Fire crews are working seven-day shifts, instead of the standard three."We've been pretty lucky with the fire activity around the state has been pretty light. Most other years, we've been hit pretty hard, and we start to get worn down this time of year, but 2019 has been relatively good to us. Our guys are pretty fresh, and they're ready to do their job." 2507
SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— With the start of summer just days away, San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE) is encouraging customers to take advantage of free programs that could potentially save a significant amount on their energy bills. 10News has reported on dozens of stories in which customers are outraged by unexpectedly high bills and surprise “High-Usage” fees. But SDGE says it does not have to be this way if customers switch to the “Level Pay” Option. “This is a really great way to avoid the high spike on your bill, let’s say in July or August,” SDGE Spokesman, Wes Jones said. For the “Level Pay” option, SDGE takes the average of the last 12 monthly bills and charges the customer the same amount for the next three months. This means there are no surprises during the summer months. “You are tapping into those months where you didn’t run your AC in February, so your bill is lower,” Jones said. “So this is a great solution for that type of customer that has that volatility throughout the year.”SDGE says another free money-saving option is to switch to the “Time-Of-Use” Plan. As long as the customer keeps track of when they use power, they can save money. The board did something similar after the Sandy Hook school shooting back in 2012 but Beiser thinks it's worth stating again. And although it's not included in the resolution, Beiser expects the issue of arming teachers to come up at the meeting.Last week President Trump said he favored arming teachers to protect students. 763.29 per kWhTier 2: 133-399% use of baseline: SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Hundreds of families are sleeping at Liberty Station Saturday night to raise awareness and money for the homeless in San Diego. The event is an annual tradition for the The San Diego Rescue Mission. Families participating in the event sleep on cots and tents made of cardboard to experience what homeless experience on a daily basis. Participants also build hygiene kits, blankets, and pet packs for the homeless. This year, the event included a concert, food, and a prayer session to pray for those that don't have a home. All of the proceeds raised at the event go to the San Diego Rescue Mission. 636.39 per kWh*“High-Use” Charge: 400%+ use of baseline: SAN DIEGO (KGTV): The San Diego Sheriff's Department has a new tool to help keep deputies safe as they fight the war on drugs. The department just bought 15 TruNarc devices. The hand-held scanners can detect and identify drugs without the deputies having to come into physical contact.Previously, to determine what kind of drug was present at a crime scene, law enforcement would have to scoop a small amount into a kit for testing. The TruNarc uses laser technology to scan through plastic bags. This technology has become increasingly important with the rise of drugs like Fentanyl. Just a microscopic amount can cause an overdose, which has made first responders wary of handling it.The TruNarc can identify more than 200 different drugs and takes less than 2 minutes to complete the scan and give a presumptive result.San Diego Sheriff's Deputies used it earlier this month when they encountered an unconscious man in San Marcos. He was covered in white powder. Deputies called for the scanner and found the powder was Fentanyl. They called for a hazmat team to clean the scene. Officials with the department say the device likely saved the man's life, as he was able to get the medical help he needed. They say it also may have saved the officers, who didn't have to touch the man or the powder until after the scene had been made safe. The devices cost ,400 each. A grant from the Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Association helped pay for them. One has been given to each sub-station around the county. There is also one at every jail and another at the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area office. 1617.55 per kWhTime-Of-Use Summer Pricing: On Peak: 4pm-9pm Tier 1: 0-130% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.46 per kWhTier 2: 133-399% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.57 per kWhOff-Peak Hours: 6am-4pm AND 9pm-midnightTier 1: 0-130% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.24 per kWhTier 2: 133-399% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.35 per kWhSuper Off-Peak Hours: Midnight-6am Tier 1: 0-130% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.19 per kWhTier 2: 133-399% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.30 per kWhTime-Of-Use Pricing does not have the *“High-Use” Charge tier. SDGE recommends customers to take advantage of this to pre-cool their home during off-peak hours. “At noon, 1 pm, or 2 pm, crank up that AC,” Jones said. “Get that house nice and cool. And as it gets later in the day, adjust that thermostat.”If you use an AC, remember to change out your AC filter. That makes your machine run much more efficiently. And if you want to save even more money, try using the fan. “That is going to be about seven times cheaper than running a room AC unit,” Jones said. “So if you can stand using a fan for a few hours here and there as opposed to that room AC you’re going to save some money on your bill.”When all else fails, remember to get back to basics. Simple things like checking for window and door seals, and rolling down your sun shades can make a big difference. Customers can change their settings to the “Level Pay” Option and “Time-Of-Use” plan at any time for free at SDGE.com/LPP. 2734
