A horse and donkey rescue shelter in Glennwood, IA is feeling the pain of the cold winter months.Genea Stoops, the owner of Hooves and Paws Rescue says they've been hit with a shortage of space and increase in hay prices.The shelter currently cares for 31 horses and donkeys, including seven mini horses that have sicknesses or injuries and are being rehabilitated. After a tough winter, Stoops said more horses are in need of rescue."We're starting to deal with a lot of neglect cases coming out of winter. It was a hard winter for us," said Stoops. With the bitter cold, Stoops said extra hay and straw was needed to feed the horses and keep the minis warm in their stalls. With the demand in hay, the feed costs increased."Now we're cutting into spring, and nobody's cut their hay so we're using last year's hay, which is not unusual but there's a lot of high prices on the hay and not everyone can afford it," added Stoops.Stoops says in Nebraska and Iowa, hay typically costs to a bale, but with the demand, prices have gone up to - per bale."There are neglect cases, and then there's people who are trying really hard and can't get hay. If we're having trouble finding hay, then I know others having trouble getting hay," said Stoops.There's now a waiting list of horses owners want to surrender to the shelter, but for now, Stoops is trying to get them more hay in the meantime.The horses also need spring shots which will cost the shelter at least ,100. You can learn more about the organization on their website. 1551

A Florida sheriff's office says it was able to identify a murder victim 35 years after he went missing thanks to the victim's custom belt buckle.According to the Pensacola Journal News, officials with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said they were successfully able to identify the body of William Ernest Thompson 37 years after he went missing.The WKMG-TV in Orlando reports that the body was found Jan. 23, 1985 about 10 miles northwest of downtown Pensacola. Officials suspected that the man had been dead for months, and possibly more than a year before it had been found.For more than three decades, the department could not find a lead in the case. The suspected murder victim was only identified as "John Doe."It wasn't until 2018, when a person searching for a missing relative, stumbled upon the case on the Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) website. Knowing their relative had last been seen in Escambia County, the person contacted the department.But authorities said they didn't truly have a lead in the case until the relative noticed the victim's belt buckle, which matched the initials of thier uncle, William Thompson."The thing that stuck out to the person the most was the victim's belt buckle with the hand-engraved initials' W.T." Chief Deputy Chip Simmons of the ECSO said in a Facebook post. "The person felt this could have been their missing uncle, whose last known location was in Escambia County near the same time John Doe's body was discovered."The relative said that while he had never been reported missing, no one in their family had spoken to their uncle, William Thompson, since 1983. Officials took a sample of the tipster's DNA, and compared with the DNA of the body. Test results confirmed the body was that of William Thompson.Thompson would have been 49 when his body was found in 1985."This is another example of the never-ending quest for justice,” ECSO Chief Deputy Chip Simmons said in a written statement. “While we haven’t yet solved the homicide, it is a step forward and can give the family some closure until the case is solved.”The case is still open and being investigated as a homicide. 2155

A Detroit woman is speaking out after a local business owner used the "N word" to shame her national anthem protest on Facebook.Stacey Graham is a Lions season ticket holder. She's been sitting for the national anthem since last year because she disagrees with the third verse of the "Star Spangled Banner," which mentions slavery.Graham attended the Lions' game on Sunday, and again sat for the anthem. Later that day picture of her protest showed up on Facebook that  included the caption, “you wanna sit down for the national anthem? You don’t like out country the get the “f***k” outtt”  The post also included the words “Ignorant N*****s” over the picture. The post was written by David Doptis who owns a business in Pontiac, Michigan called Restaurant Liquidation Auctions. Efforts to reach Doptis by home and at his home in Bloomfield Township were not successful.  925

However, Barrett continued to repeatedly invoke the "Ginsburg rule.""Justice Ginsburg, with her characteristic pithiness, used this to describe how a nominee should comport herself at a hearing. No hints, no previews, no forecasts," Barrett said on Tuesday.Ginsburg — whose seat Barrett seeks to fill following the longtime justice's death in September — coined the phrase during her confirmation hearings 27 years ago. While she did not set that precedent, she's credited with the concise phrasing that has been recited by many prospective justices in the decades since.But The Associated Press notes that Ginsburg was open on her views of at least one hotly-debated topic — abortion."The decision whether or not to bear a child is central to a woman's life, to her well-being and dignity," Ginsburg said in 1993 during her confirmation hearing, according to the AP. A faulty engine part that could cause vehicles to stall has led to a recall of 400,000 worldwide.The recall affects Toyota Motor Corp. and Subaru Corp., MarketWatch reports. About 80,000 of the 400,000 are Toyotas.Subaru is recalling some of its most popular models, such as the Forester sport-utility vehicle and Impreza and BRZ sports car. Toyota is recalling the Subaru-made 86 and Scion FR-S sports car, MarketWatch said.The automakers announced springs in the engine valve could fracture. That would cause the vehicles to stall and possibly lead to an accident.Earlier in October, Toyota recalled approximately 2.4 million vehicles worldwide due to a problem in which the cars may not enter a fail-safe driving mode as intended, which can cause the vehicle to lose power and stall. About 807,000 of those vehicles are in the United States. If this happens while driving at higher speeds, it could cause a crash. The recall affects 2010-2014 model year Toyota Prius and 2012-2014 Prius v vehicles.There was a second recall involving certain 2018-2019 Tundra and Sequoia vehicles and 2019 Avalon vehicles. About 168,000 vehicles sold in the United States are affected by this recall, which is due to a programming problem in the airbag electronic control unit (ECU) that could disable one or more of the sensors used to detect crashes, possibly causing the side and curtain shield airbags and/or front and knee airbags to not deploy as intended.  1502
