A Texas police officer shot his adult son Saturday, thinking he was an intruder.Dispatchers received a call around 6 p.m. CDT from a man reporting a shooting at his home. A third horse died in three days at Santa Anita when it collided with another horse during training hours on Sunday. Tikkun Olam, a 4-year-old gelding trained by Eric Kuljac, was euthanized because of his undisclosed injuries. The other horse apparently wasn't injured. Santa Anita has had five horse deaths since Dec. 26, two days before the winter-spring meet began. Last year, 37 horses died at the Southern California racetrack. Tikkun Olam's death was the first that occurred on the main dirt surface this year. A horse died Friday and another died Saturday. 575

All four crew members aboard a cargo ship that capsized off the coast of Georgia have been rescued, the Coast Guard said Monday.Cpt. John Reed of the US Coast Guard said the first three rescued crew members were hospitalized, but were doing well considering the circumstances. The condition of the fourth crew members is unknown.The Coast Guard had been working since early Sunday to rescue four South Korean crew members that were on the ship when it tipped onto its side in St. Simons Sound.Complicating efforts are the size of the 656-foot ship and the fact it has watertight doors, numerous compartments and no power, Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Luke Clayton said.A call for helpThe first dispatches from the ship came at around 2 a.m. Sunday, VanderWeit said.South Korea's Foreign Ministry said the ship began "listing heavily," about 80 degrees, to the port side before overturning. Help arrived about two hours after the first call came in, VanderWeit said.Twenty members of the crew were rescued around 4 and 5 a.m., VanderWeit said. They exited via various parts of the vessel, which posed a challenge in getting them off the ship.Some crew members were hoisted onto helicopters while others were lowered — in some cases by fire hoses — onto boats, VanderWeit said.Fires broke out on the ship, preventing rescuers from continuing their efforts to save the remaining four crew members, said Capt. Air bags are an essential safety feature in modern vehicles, but for some drivers and passengers, air bags aren't providing a satisfactory level of safety, according to a government agency.The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced recently that 10 million additional air bags have been added to a recall of Takata air bags. The air bags were installed by 14 different automakers, including some Ford, GM and Toyota models. The NHTSA said that exposure to long-term heat and humidity can cause these air bags to explode when deployed. The NHTSA claims that faulty air bags have caused injuries and fatalities. "The propellant in some of the subject inflators may degrade over time, which could lead to over-aggressive combustion in the event the air bag is activated," the NHTSA said.
