The coronavirus pandemic has sent many consumers to purchase items online, so it's no surprise this year's spending on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday were record-high e-commerce shopping days.According to Adobe Analytics data, shoppers spent .8 billion, making it the highest-grossing Cyber Monday ever. Last year, consumers spent .4 billion.Adobe projected consumers to spend .7 billion this year on Cyber Monday in its early holiday spending forecast.On Cyber Monday, Adobe said the number of orders picked up curbside was up 30% from a year ago, as consumers shopped safely during the pandemic.Many people also used their smartphones to avoid crowds at brick and mortar during the pandemic. Adobe added that purchases made on mobile devices made up 37% of the digital sales on Cyber Monday.Analysts said from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Pacific time, customers spent .7 billion, or million per minute, that accounted for 25% of the day's revenue.Adobe said the items most consumers purchased were Lego sets, vTech-brand toys, scooters, video games, Apple AirPods and Watches, HP and Dell computers, as well as Chromecast.According to Adobe, consumers spent billion on Black Friday, making it the third-highest online spending day in U.S. history. The Environmental Protection Agency has handed documents to Congress that show new travel expenses from agency administrator Scott Pruitt, totaling some ,000 in hotel stays and air travel, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.The documents, which were requested by House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy and obtained by the Post, reportedly show that Pruitt traveled on government business dozens of time on first-class and domestic flights from August 2017 through February 2018.The reported expenses include a four-day, ,631 trip to Morocco in December, a series of first-class flights following Hurriciane Harvey totaling ,330, and a two-day domestic trip for media interviews and a visit to Florida that amounted to ,767. Pruitt's travel expenses listed in the records reportedly do not include the costs of his security team or aides who travel with him.The EPA justified the travel spending as necessary to ensure Pruitt's security."EPA's Protective Service Detail identified specific ongoing threats associated with Administrator Pruitt's travel and shifted his class based on certain security protocols that require him to be near the front of the plane," said Jahan Wilcox, a spokesperson for the agency.Previously, CNN reported that from June through August 2017, the EPA justified several expensive charter flights for Pruitt -- including a ,000 bill for a business trip around his home state.In late August, the EPA inspector general announced it would investigate Pruitt's travel practices. The first day of fall is just one week away and restaurants are preparing to take another hit.“A lot of us are going into these months thinking, you know, how many more days can I survive until I have to close my restaurant?” said Kevin Boehm, a co-founder of the Boka Restaurant Group, an independent restaurant coalition.Boehm is also a restaurant owner in Chicago, where COVID-19 restrictions have slashed indoor capacity. And he says outdoor seating won't be possible much longer.The National Restaurant Association surveyed owners around the country. About three quarters say they're using patio space right now and hope to continue doing so for a least a few more weeks.Outdoor dining is bringing in nearly half of their daily sales but keeping customers outside will soon get more costly.“Equipment for outdoor dining, especially when it gets cold, get expensive, be it a tent for a parking lot, be it heaters or anything like that, that starts adding up in costs,” said Mike Whatley, VP of State and Local Affairs at the National Restaurant Association.The association wants local governments to start grant programs for buying that equipment to keep temporary regulations in place that allow for more outdoor service.The coalition hopes to see increased indoor capacity for cooler months. They're also lobbying for Congress to pass the Restaurants Act, which would create a 0 billion grant program for independent restaurants.Boehm says there could be rolling closures through the winter.“By the time we get to next summer, we're going to be looking at a much smaller array of restaurants, a lot less choices, a lot more chains, and the independent restaurant is going to be an endangered species,” said Boehm.The National Restaurant Association says owners that are innovative are the ones that will make it through this crisis. 1849

The City of Glendale plans to vote on adding a permanent American flag to the top of Thunderbird Mountain. The Glendale Chamber Military and Veterans Affairs Committee sent a proposal to the city council asking to erect a flag. The committee will also manage it. Thunderbird Mountain falls within a conservation park, which means it is to be left as is. The picnic tables, garbage cans, and signage are all a part of the city's master plan, which is why they are allowed in the park. "We want people to enjoy it but not to disturb the wildlife the plants and not erect any structures in the park either, at least if they're not part of the master plan," said Vice-Mayor Lauren Tolmachoff. She is one of the council members voting to hold off on the change. "Not everybody on the council felt there was a conservation national park because there are signs and roads, and I disagree with that," she said. "You know there are roads in national parks, but they are still to be preserved and protected."No word on when the council will take an official vote, but it will likely be before the end of June.  1153

The Clark County coroner ruled that Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul's death in June was due to natural causes. Paul, whose legal name was Vincent Paul Abbott, died of dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition where the heart becomes enlarged and cannot pump blood effectively. Severe coronary artery disease was identified as a significant condition to the cause of death. Paul died at his Las Vegas residence on June 22.
