SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google is restarting a practice in which human contractors listen to and transcribe some voice commands people give to the company's artificial intelligence system, Assistant. But this time Google is taking steps to make sure people know what they are agreeing to.The company suspended its transcription practices after more than 1,000 Dutch-language recordings were leaked to the media in Belgium this summer. Google required users to opt-in to the service before audio transcriptions were recorded, but critics have said people didn't fully understand they were agreeing to allow human transcribers to listen in because the company's language was unclear.Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and Facebook have all used similar practices. The companies say it helps make their AI systems more accurate.Now Google will require users to agree again to voice transcription and make it clear human transcribers might listen to recordings. People don't have to opt-in to the service, but certain Assistant features won't be available if they don't.The company also said it will delete most recordings after a few months, and people can review their recordings and delete them manually at any time. 1210

SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) - New recommendations aim to help the thousands of teenagers living with depression who are suffering in silence. The American Academy of Pediatrics released new guidelines for primary care doctors to screen young people. They say 2 out of 3 depressed teens are not being identified by their doctors and not getting the care they need. One survey doctors can give to patients is just two questions, another is nine. The purpose is not to establish a final diagnosis but rather screen for depression in a "first step" approach. San Diego Pediatrician Jaime Friedman believes it's a positive step to help young people and that it will be fairly easy to incorporate into visits. She will soon be using tablets on which parents and teens can answer questions related to their visit, they'll also be able to conduct the depression screening on them. Doctors are also being advised to talk to families about safety plans, removing lethal medications or guns from the home to prevent suicide. The AAP recommends young people get screened at least once a year starting at age 12.  1144

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Thousands of survivors laced up their walking shoes this morning to support breast cancer survivors and others battling the disease.The annual Susan G. Women San Diego Race for the Cure was held in Balboa Park this morning. The main focus of the event is to bring awareness to breast cancer.Organizers say early detections and knowing your family health history can save your life.“When I was 10 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. So I’ve been really diligent throughout my whole life in getting mammograms," Survivor Merrilee Neal says. Komen San Diego offers a number of free resources, including free mammograms.“I am a recipient of the Susan G Komen free mammograms and that’s where my breast cancer was detected,’ says survivor Wendy Shurelds.In San Diego, six women are diagnosed with breast cancer each day. The state of California and the Komen Foundation teamed up for an initiative, called “The Circle of Promise,” to educate women.“The Circle of Promise was created for African American women, due to the fact that the African American women mortality rate is 41% higher in San Diego than any other race.”The goal for the event was 5,000. "I'm trying to think if we should still keep the business, we still gotta pay rent, and we can't even use it."Cage runs the shop, a combination of a barbershop and a hair salon with his wife, Melissa Cage."She's a cosmetologist also; she's in the shop.
