As fears are growing over a new strain of the coronavirus spreading through the United Kingdom, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized federal officials for not banning all flights from the UK.While international travel is severely curtailed due to the pandemic, a small number of flights make their way from the UK to the US on a daily basis."We have about six flights a day coming in from the U.K. and we have done absolutely nothing,” Cuomo said. “To me this is reprehensible because this is what happened in the spring. Coronavirus is in China. No it wasn't, it's in Europe. It came from Europe and we did nothing."In response on Monday, Cuomo said that British Airlines and Delta agreed to test passengers for the coronavirus for all flights originating from the UK landing in New York. Still, Cuomo says, these measures aren't enough.The United Kingdom has implemented some of its strongest lockdowns since the onset of the pandemic in recent days. While not much is known about the mutated strain of the virus, it is believed to spread more easily.The new virus strain prompted Canada to block all incoming flights from the UK. France has also closed off travel from the UK."To our international friends and partners, I want to say very frankly that we understand your concerns and I hope everybody can see that as soon as we were briefed in UK government on the the fast transmissibility of this new strain, that I think 3:15 on Friday afternoon, we lodged all the necessary information with the World Health Organization and we took prompt and decisive action the very next day to curb the spread of the new variant," UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.Cuomo said that the US should add itself to the list of countries banning travel from the UK."Right now, this variant in the U.K. is getting on a plane and flying to JFK. Right now today,” Cuomo said. “One-hundred twenty countries require a test. We don't. Other European countries have done a ban. We haven't. And today that variant is getting on a plane and landing at JFK. How many times in life do you have to make the same mistake before you learn. Be one of the 120 countries that requires a test before you get on a plane to come to the U.S. This is the mistake we made."The US State Department has not updated its UK travel advisory since August. As a planned peace summit between the United States and North Korea appears to be in peril, a department of the Trump administration reportedly issued a collectable coin commemorating the  yet-to-happen meeting.According to the New York Times, the coins were commissioned by the White House Communications — a subset of the Department of Defense that handles military communications for the White House. The coin depicts silhouettes of President Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un.The White House denied having any input into the design or manufacture of the coin on Monday, adding that the coins are only ordered "after a trip has been publicly announced."Critics called the release of the coins "gross," others added that referring to Kim Jong Un as North Korea's "Supreme Leader" felt inappropriate given the country's human rights abuses.   888

(AP) — A fifth horse has died at Santa Anita this fall, the 35th overall fatality since Dec. 26 at the Southern California racetrack.G Q Covergirl injured both her front legs Friday on the training track. The 5-year-old mare was euthanized on the advice of the attending veterinarian.Trained by two-time Kentucky Derby winner Doug O'Neill, G Q Covergirl had six wins in 16 career starts and earnings of 0,730. She had won her last two starts and finished in the money in all of her six races this year. O'Neill also owned the mare in a partnership.The training track has caused the fewest number of breakdowns. However, there have been three deaths on it since the fall meet began on Sept. 27, including one that was believed to be a heart attack. The other two fatalities occurred during races.Santa Anita hosts the Breeders' Cup world championships next weekend. 891

An area of open desert south of Tucson Airport has commonly been referred to as the "Dogpatch." The land has been known to be a dumping ground for trash and dogs, and it has been going on for decades. Angels for Animals is one of many groups that over the years has tried to clean up the Dogpatch.A volunteer with the organization, Jason Gilliam, said that it is an issue that will never go away for good, but it can be managed. "If we make it out here without seeing a dead one, it's a good day." Gilliam says for every weekly visit; they'll find between three to five dead dogs.The Pima County Sheriff's Department says their efforts to stop illegal dog dumping depends on the number of reports they get from people in the area. Deputy James Allerton says as a community, it could be possible to clean up the Dogpatch one day.  877
