One of the positions President-elect Joe Biden will reportedly be looking to fill when he takes office will be a new NASA administrator.According to Aviation Week & Space Technology, current NASA chief Jim Bridenstine said that he would step down from his position with the space agency even if Biden asked him to stay.Bridenstine told the magazine that he based his decision on what's best for the space agency, not for "partisan reasons."Bridenstine continued by saying that the next administrator needs to have a "close relationship with the president" and be "trusted by the administration," the magazine reported.Bridenstine added in the article that he doesn't think he'd be the right person under a new administration.According to NASA's website, the former Oklahoma congressman was appointed by President Donald Trump and took the NASA job in 2018.Bridenstine said he hasn't thought about what his next career step will be, Aviation Weekly reported. 965

OAKLAND, Ca. — You might have forgotten what it felt like to be in a theater that’s packed with people, watching a movie on a big screen.Carlos Courtade remembers the connection.“You came for the feeling, like you were part of something,” he said.He remembers the energy that this pandemic has turned into emptiness inside his theater, The New Parkway, in Oakland, California.Courtade is The New Parkway’s director of community outreach.“We already, as an independent movie theater, pride ourselves on having some of the lowest ticket prices around town and also, at the same time, paying our employees the most out of a living wage, more than any other movie theater around, so already our margins are already really, really narrow,” Courtade said.Courtade is familiar with the script that’s been written for theaters in 2020.Hundreds of theaters have closed, and many will never show films again.But The New Parkway is unique, and that’s easy to see when you look at its theaters. Instead of seats, there are couches, giving it more of a basement or living room type feel than a theater.What’s also unique is what is keeping them in business.“Unlike a lot of movie theaters around, we had the benefit of having a full-sized kitchen,” Courtade said.The kitchen is a plot twist that’s keeping the lights on at a movie theater that hasn’t shown a movie in nine months.The New Parkway’s staff prepare and package food it typically would serve in its theater but now sell it to customers who order online.“For the most part, it’s been enabling us to keep our heads above water,” Courtade said.The food helps pay the rent at a time when the movie-less theater is missing 0,000 a month in revenue.But when you look around Oakland, like many cities, you can see why just being open is a win.“I don’t think anyone knows what the impact is going to be long-term,” said Marcus Osborne, who started working as a manager at The New Parkway during the pandemic.As coronavirus, social distancing, and isolation threaten movie theaters today, the threat of tomorrow for this industry beyond this pandemic, if you ask Osborne, is whether customers will ever fully come back.“How are we going to continue to make movie theaters and other forms of entertainment important to people if they’ve found a way to live without it?” he asked.“I’ve heard a lot of people say they wouldn’t come back to the theater even post-pandemic,” Courtade added.The New Parkway says it won’t fully reopen until there is a vaccine readily available.It's hard to predict the ending to this pandemic, but like a movie, there is a moral in the story of businesses like this one: finding a way through, no matter what.“Sometimes you just have to think outside the box,” Courtade said. “Something that might not be obvious or clear right away shouldn’t prevent you from looking at things in a different point of view.” 2886

One hundred people have been charged in connection with a large-scale fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, and cocaine trafficking ring that has operated between Cuyahoga and Columbiana counties in Ohio since 2014.According to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, the amount of fentanyl and carfentanil that was allegedly trafficked into the area "was enough to kill every single person in Columbiana County, plus every man, woman, and child in 11 other nearby counties."Investigators say the people charged are responsible for funneling the equivalent of approximately 1 million potentially fatal doses of carfentanil and approximately 350,000 potentially fatal doses of fentanyl into Columbiana County alone.Authorities began serving arrest warrants as part of "Operation Big Oak" on Monday.Three Cuyahoga County men, who are the alleged ringleaders of the operation, are accused of operating the drug ring as part of the “Down the Way” criminal street gang.  The men are all facing multiple charges related to the trafficking of fentanyl and the trafficking of heroin and/or cocaine.A fourth Cuyahoga County man, who was also identified as an alleged ringleader of the organization, is accused of trafficking carfentanil, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine as part of the drug operation.According to investigators, the four suspects allegedly sold the drugs to dozens of mid-level traffickers who then sold the drugs across Columbiana County.A total of 51 alleged mid-level traffickers from Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Tuscarawas, and Mahoning counties are also facing one or more charges related to the trafficking of fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, or cocaine. Forty-five lower-level suspects were also indicted after investigators found that they allegedly contributed to the actions of the drug trafficking organization.Two suspects are charged with felony assault for allegedly exposing East Liverpool Police Officer Chris Green to fentanyl during a May 2017 traffic stop conducted as part of the investigation into this drug trafficking ring. Officials in North Carolina now say that seven people have been killed in flash floods prompted by Tropical Storm Eta.The Charlotte Observer reports that four people were killed in Alexander County, located about an hour north of Charlotte. There, at a local campground, three bodies were recovered and another 31 people were rescued. As of Thursday afternoon, an adult and a child were still missing from the campsite.Elsewhere in Alexander County, another person died when floodwaters caused a bridge to collapse. It was one of four bridges in the country that were swept away by floods, and one of the collapses was captured live by a local TV news channel.The Observer reports that two other deaths were recorded in Iredell County when floodwaters caused a pickup truck to hydroplane and collided with an oncoming car.The New York Times reports that the seventh fatality occurred in Wake County — near Raleigh — where witnesses say a child who had been playing near a creek drowned in a flash flood.According to The Weather Channel, the Charlotte area received seven inches of rain on Thursday, causing creeks and rivers to overflow quickly.
