SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego-based owners and operators of the conservative One America News Network filed a million defamation lawsuit Monday against MSNBC and political commentator Rachel Maddow for saying on air the network ``really literally is paid Russian propaganda.'' The lawsuit filed in San Diego federal court by Herring Networks Inc., owners of the One America News Network -- or OAN -- calls Maddow's on-air statements ``utterly and completely false'' because OAN ``is wholly financed by the Herrings, an American family'' and ``has never been paid or received a penny from Russia or the Russian government.'' Maddow and MSNBC could not immediately be reached for comment. Maddow made the statements during a July 22 segment of her show, in which she cited a Daily Beast article stating that an OAN on-air reporter was ``on the payroll for the Kremlin.'' Herring Networks' court papers say the reporter, Kristian Rouz, is originally from the Ukraine and started his journalism career by writing articles for Sputnik News, which is affiliated with the Russian government. According to Herring Networks, Rouz was merely a freelancer for Sputnik who selected his own article topics for submission, and his work there had no significance toward his work for OAN. OAN demanded a retraction of Maddow's statement, according to the suit, which says that an attorney for NBC Universal refuted that Maddow's use of the word ``literally'' was not simply a figure of speech. The Herrings' attorney, Skip Miller, said in a statement that ``One America is wholly owned by the Herring family in San Diego,'' who he called ``as American as apple pie.'' Regarding Maddow's statements, Miller said, ``This is a false and malicious libel, and they're going to answer for it in a court of law.'' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A child suffered severe injuries from a pit bull attack Monday in Logan Heights.The child was bitten on Irving Avenue around 2:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.Paramedics took the child to Rady Children’s Hospital to be treated for head lacerations and a possible puncture to the eye.20-month-old “Ookie” the pit bull was impounded by Animal Control officers. The dog was relinquished for euthanasia by its owner.According to the infant's adult sister, the 2-month-old has a cracked cranium and possibly a punctured eye socket. Witnesses say group was in the backyard when the dog licked then bit the infant's face. The owner of the dog reportedly had to pry the dog's jaw off the baby.  745

SAN DIEGO (CNS) -The county Health and Human Services Agency Friday reported two unrelated tuberculosis cases, and that people may have been exposed to the bacteria at Southwestern and San Diego City colleges, and on a Metropolitan Transit System bus route.The county is working with officials from both community colleges and MTS to notify those who may have been exposed to TB. The periods of possible exposure were:Aug. 26 to Dec. 10, 2019 at Southwestern College;July 26, to Aug. 5, 2019 and Aug. 19 to Dec. 16, 2019 at San Diego City College;July 26 to Aug. 5, 2019 and Aug. 19 to Dec. 16, 2019, Monday through Friday on MTS Bus Route 12, with two departure routes: from Skyline Hills between 7:59 and 8:47 a.m. to City College Transit Center, and from City College Transit Center between 7:04 and 8:04 p.m. to Skyline Hills.Symptoms of active TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss, said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. "Most people who are exposed to tuberculosis do not develop the disease," she added.Tuberculosis can be treated and cured with medication. People with TB symptoms or are immuno-compromised are encouraged to see their medical healthcare provider, according to the county.According to the county, the number of tuberculosis cases has decreased since the early 1990s, with 265 cases reported in 2019.Free TB testing will be available at Southwestern College Student Health Services, 900 Otay Lakes Road, from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former Camp Pendleton Marine was sentenced Monday to more than 17 years in prison for owning and distributing child pornography.William Walsh IV, 55, was arrested in May 2017. Escondido Police officers searched his home and seized hundreds of files Walsh had downloaded through peer-to-peer file sharing software.A jury found Walsh guilty of all charges. U.S. District Judge Anthony J. Battaglia said Walsh’s conduct was “on the extreme end of the cases I have seen.”“Today a man who committed terrible crimes against children was sentenced to many years in prison,” said U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman. “These horrible experiences will echo in the hearts and minds of young victims for a lifetime, and I am deeply distressed and deeply committed to pursuing cases that will protect our vulnerable youth from people like Walsh.”“Today’s sentence confirms that this predator can no longer victimize innocent children because he is off the streets and he is offline,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge John Brown. “This investigation showcases the success of collaborative federal and local investigations working toward a common goal.”Walsh will serve his sentence in federal prison. 1208
