PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- A Charlotte County deputy was forced to use his firearm to defend himself from charging dogs during a call Thursday morning.According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, the deputy responded to a call from a resident who was afraid to exit his truck due to three loose and aggressive pit bulls in his yard.The deputy arrived to observe the dogs, described as approximately 100 pounds each, leaving the man's yard and chasing chickens in the next yard.As the deputy was speaking to the resident, the dogs returned and began to charge the men, forcing the resident back into his truck and chasing the deputy around it.The deputy fired his weapon at two of the dogs before they retreated down the road.Animal Control arrived and took the dogs into custody, giving the injured dogs treatment.They are investigating any possible citations for the owners. 889

RANCHO SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The boyfriend of a missing woman refused to take a polygraph test Monday - on the same day Arizona police arrested him for identity theft and forgery. Kiera Bergman was living in Phoenix when she went missing two weeks ago, but the 19-year-old grew up in San Diego. Monday night her father agreed to speak with 10News Anchor Ariel Wesler about the desperate search for Bergman. Bergman graduated from Valhalla High School in 2017. PUEBLO, Colo. -- A Colorado man made a historic leap with his most recent skydive.Tommy Fergeson of Pueblo made his 1,000th jump Saturday, exactly eight years after an accident cost him his left arm.He's now made 343 jumps with two arms and 657 with one.After losing the limb, the "One-armed Skydiver" didn't lose his love for the pursuit and found ways to overcome his obstacles."It's something that when I first started I never dreamed I would hit 1,000 skydives you know? It's taken some years. I'm fixing to turn 58, actually next month I turn 58 but I still love it and I am going to continue to do it, and I'm gonna be with my family and I just love skydiving. RAINBOW (CNS) - One person was killed this afternoon when an SUV veered off a rural road in the far northern reaches of the San Diego area, struck a tree and caught fire, authorities reported.The fatal accident was reported about 4:45 p.m. on Pala Temecula Road, just south of the Riverside County line in the Rainbow community, according to the California Highway Patrol.The victim, whose identity was not immediately available, died at the scene of the crash, which left the roadway blocked in the area. 513
