BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee met Tuesday in a meeting on anti-corruption, demanding greater efforts in addressing problems the masses complained about most and fighting corruption among grassroots officials.The meeting was presided over by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President Hu Jintao. BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Beijing will adopt tough water management measures in the next five years to ease acute water shortages, according to local water authorities.The measures include setting warning lines for the quantity of water consumption, efficiency of water use and water pollution levels within the metropolitan area, Bi Xiaogang, spokesman with the Beijing Water Authority, was quoted as saying by Monday's Beijing Daily.Local governments would be punished if they missed the targets, he said, adding it was the first time that such measures had been formulated.The measures, which were still being drafted by the municipal government, will be implemented during the first half of 2011, Bi was quoted as saying.Beijing has been plagued by drought for 12 years in a row, during which its per capita amount of water resources has been nearly halved to about 150 cubic meters.With nearly 20 million residents and more than 4.7 million vehicles, the metropolis has a water resource deficit of 400 million cubic meters, although it transferred 320 million cubic meters of water from neighboring Hebei Province last year.

BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) Friday welcomed ruling from the World Trade Organization (WTO) that the European Union (EU) anti-dumping duties on Chinese screws and bolts were discriminatory and are in violation of global commerce rules.For a long time, the EU has been requiring Chinese exporters to prove they meet with the "single duty" requirements when they are responding to anti-dumping cases, bringing a heavy burden and unfair treatment to Chinese companies, said an official with the MOC.In particular the WTO ruled the EU's single duty requirements and practices are discriminatory and violated WTO rules.China urged the EU to respect the WTO ruling and rid itself of codes or practices that go against WTO rules and treat Chinese exporters fairly to ensure normal trade between China and the EU, the official said.At the beginning of 2009, the EU decided to impose anti-dumping duties of up to 87 percent for the next five years on fasteners imported from China.The WTO set up an expert panel on Oct. 23, 2009 after China initiated the WTO case on July 31, 2009, saying anti-dumping measures taken by the EU against the import of Chinese steel fasteners violated WTO trade rules.

BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of China's National Energy Administration (NEA) encouraged Chinese firms to invest in the renewable energy market of the United States to boost their competitiveness in the international market.The statement was made by Wang Jun, head of the department of new energy and renewable energy at the NEA, during the wind power section at the China-US Renewable Energy Investment Forum, also attended by officials from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Department of Commerce."While a number of U.S. companies are establishing firms manufacturing wind turbines, bearings and current converters, thus making China an important part of their global business, the U.S. wind power market remains relatively unknown to Chinese firms," said Wang.He noted that the U.S. wind power market has great potential but is short of funding in the wake of the international financial crisis. However, there remains opportunities for many Chinese wind power enterprises with strong expertise and funding.Wang also identified the lack of knowledge about rules for operating in the U.S. market rules, regulations, policies and financing channels about renewable energy investment, as barriers for Chinese firms to enter the U.S. market.
