DETROIT — Two Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers helped save a life Friday afternoon. The department says officer Ben Lasher was patrolling Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan when around 12:31 p.m. Michigan State Police notified him of a woman threatening to jump off the MacArthur Bridge. "She was very upset," Lasher said. "She was crying. She was looking over her shoulder at the river. I was quite concerned because she didn't want me to come across the barricade."At the scene, Lasher witnessed the woman crying while standing next to the guard rail of the bridge. “She asked me to stay by my patrol truck at first,” Lasher said. “I was able to talk to her and find out her name."Lasher continued talking with the woman, while officer Steven Converse — who was also patrolling Belle Isle — arrived to the scene. "The bridge isn't very tall but the cold water, the body won't accept," Lasher said. "You won't do well in that environment very long."Converse approached where the woman and Lasher were standing and helped convince her to go with them to Lasher's patrol truck and seek professional help. After several minutes, the woman agreed, and the officers helped her climb over the barricade and into the patrol truck for safety."Holiday seasons are hard," said Lasher. "A lot of people have strong feelings, good or bad, and this young lady was having a hard time. And I was able to be in the right place at the right time."What helped, in part, was the training these officers receive for these types of situations.“Part of what conservation officers are taught is to engage in conversation with the suicidal person and to ask what has happened that has brought them to this point of suicide,” said Michael Comer, a contract police psychologist for the DNR Law Enforcement Division. “COs listen to the person's story, establish a rapport and demonstrate that they care about the suicidal person. They have been taught that they will not be able to change the person's mind until they first understand the person's story and despair.”The woman was taken to a local hospital for a check-up. According to the DNR, the scene was cleared around 1:01 p.m., exactly 30 minutes after officer Lasher received the original call. "There's hope for tomorrow," Lasher said he told the woman. DENVER — A 16-year-old girl killed her 7-year-old nephew after the boy threw a fit when the girl refused to play video games with him, according to court documents.Seven-year-old Jordan Vong went missing on Aug. 6. His body was found a day later when FBI agents and police obtained a warrant to enter his family’s Montbello home a day later.According to a probable cause statement, the 16-year-old girl accused of killing her nephew told police she pushed Jordan off her bed after he refused to move and amid a crying fit. She then “placed her hand over Jordan's mouth and plugged his nose as Jordan began to struggle for a few minutes."The girl, whom authorities have not yet identified, was arrested last Wednesday after Vong’s body was discovered inside his family’s home Aug. 7, the day after he was killed. On Monday, she was charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse charges.According to the document, the teenage suspect told police that on Aug. 6, Vong went down to her basement bedroom and asked her to play video games with him. When she refused, the boy became upset and laid down on her bed, the document read. She said this made her angry, which caused her to push the boy off her bed “causing him to strike his face on the floor,” the statement read. The document said after Jordan stopped moving, the girl told police she put the body underneath her bed before removing it, wrapping it in a blanket and placing it in a portable closet in her room.She told investigators that she did not say a word to family members about what she allegedly did or where the body was hidden. Vong’s body was found by authorities in the portable closet Tuesday evening amid the execution of a search warrant.According to the probable cause statement, Vong’s body was found with a “towel and comforter around his head, biological matter and blood about his nose, and an unknown imprint on Vong’s chest.” He was first reported missing around 4:30 p.m. Monday.Police said the victim’s mother called 911 and reported her son missing. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - A local woman says that a man posed as a Del Mar plastic surgeon and groped her for several minutes during a consultation exam. Team 10 investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner verified that he is the manager of a cosmetic surgery center, but he is not a licensed medical provider. He denies any wrongdoing.“All I can remember is being in the car and just bawling, just crying,” she tells us. She claims that the crime against her was deeply personal, so we’re not revealing her identity.She says her tears came just minutes after she says she left Del Mar Cosmetic Contouring Surgery. It’s a private business located in a medical office building off of El Camino Real.“He pinched my nipples. He grabbed the side of my chest. He lifted [my breasts] up with both hands,” she tells 10News. She’s talking about Dario Moscoso, who operates the cosmetic surgery business that specializes in fat contouring. “She’s a liar. She’s trying to extort money,” says Moscoso. “Do you touch patients?” we ask him. He replies, “No. I do not touch patients.”She says she visited the office for a full body contouring consultation, when Moscoso allegedly took her to an exam room, alone, had her disrobe, and grabbed her all over without gloves on. She tells us that he had her pull her pants down, too.“Did you think Mr. Moscoso was a plastic surgeon?” we ask. “Yes. He wore a white coat…he had a clip board. He had paperwork that I was signing,” she responds.“Have you ever represented yourself as a plastic surgeon?” we ask him. “No,” he replies.We also ask, “[Do you make] it very clear with each patient coming in that you are not a licensed medical provider?” “Absolutely,” he tells us. “If they try to disrobe, I do not allow it. [I] absolutely do not allow it,” he adds.His Instagram account shows “Plastic Surgeon” under his name.“That is a category,” he explains. He tells us that it represents the industry that he works in, not his profession. The woman who’s accusing him of groping her tells us that the consultation made her extremely uncomfortable, but she was desperate to change her body. So, she put down a deposit, left the office, and called back at a later date.“I was na?ve,” she says.When she later called back, she says she learned that a Doctor Gerald Schneider would be doing the procedure. Schneider is on probation with the Medical Board of California for sexual misconduct with another patient. He is still allowed to practice with Moscoso as a third-party chaperone. Moscoso says that he and Dr. Schneider always follow that rule.Schneider would not do an interview with 10News.He, Moscoso and their cosmetic procedure businesses are now being sued for what the alleged victim says happened to her.“[It’s] an absolute lie. It never [happened]. In all the years that I've been doing this, I have never had that happen before,” Moscoso adds.The alleged victim doesn't buy it. She thinks that other patients have been assaulted, too. “Come forward. Come forward, because he needs to be stopped,” she adds.
