SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Wednesday for help in tracking down a motorist involved in a fatal hit-and-run on a Clairemont- area street last month. The unidentified driver's black four-door sedan struck and killed 44- year-old Shane Moore as he was crossing the street in the 5500 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard shortly before 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22, according to San Diego police and the county Medical Examiner's Office. The motorist continued driving and fled the area to the east. An SUV then ran over the mortally injured pedestrian.Moore, who apparently was homeless, died at the scene, despite efforts by witnesses to render first-aid.Based on broken-off car parts found at the site of the traffic fatality, investigators believe the vehicle that struck Moore was a 2016 or 2017 Honda Accord, police said.Anyone who might be able to help identify the hit-and-run driver is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to ,000. 1109

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman who pointed what turned out to be a pellet gun at two San Diego police officers who followed her into a downtown parking structure during the Rock-N-Roll marathon is scheduled to be sentenced Friday.Mona Elease Williams, 59, pleaded guilty in September to a pair of felony counts of resisting an executive officer by threat or violence. She faces a maximum of eight years and four months in state prison. On the third day of the defendant's preliminary hearing three months ago, Deputy District Attorney Michael Runyon dismissed allegations that Williams personally used a deadly weapon in the crimes. He said that because he couldn't prove that the pellet gun was loaded, the allegations had to be dismissed.Williams -- who has convictions for burglary in 1986 and assault in 2003 and was sent to prison in 2015 -- would have faced 62 years to life behind bars if convicted as charged. The defendant's good friend, Lisa Wilson, testified that Williams texted ``death by cop'' hours before the June 3 confrontation with officers. In body-worn camera video recorded as Williams was arrested, she is seen frantically trying to explain to Officer Ronald Hamilton that she is bipolar and off her medications.``She told me she wanted to harm herself,'' Hamilton testified. The officer said Williams was acting erratically, breathing heavily and was showing signs consistent with someone under the influence of methamphetamine.Minutes earlier, an officer followed Williams after a motorist trying to find a parking space told the officer that Williams -- driving Wilson's car -- hit her from behind and took off. Runyon said Williams was spotted in the car near the entrance to the First Avenue city parking structure by an officer who thought he saw a gun pointed at him. Williams proceeded to the top of the parking structure and pointed the pellet gun at an officer, who fired two shots at her but missed.Another responding officer accidentally shot himself in the leg during the incident. 2018

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was sentenced to nearly a decade in state prison Wednesday for his role in the fatal shooting of a Navy sailor who pulled over on a San Diego freeway ramp to help a seemingly stranded motorist.Harvey Liberato, 26, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and other charges stemming from the Oct. 27, 2018 slaying of 21-year-old Curtis Adams on the connector ramp between southbound state Route 15 and northbound Interstate 5.Adams was driving on the freeway with his girlfriend at around 2 a.m. when he stopped to assist a disabled vehicle on the side of the freeway, which was actually a car that had sustained flat tires in a shootout from a bungled vehicle burglary earlier that night.RELATED: Man found guilty of murder in slaying of Navy sailor on freewayThe disabled car was occupied by Liberato, Susana Galvan, 40; Brandon Acuna, 23; and Brandon's brother, Edson Acuna, 26.Believing Adams was the person they had engaged in a shootout with earlier in the night, Edson Acuna exited the car and shot Adams in the chest.Edson was convicted by a jury earlier this year of first-degree murder, robbery, burglary, various firearm counts and a special-circumstance allegation of committing the murder in the commission of a burglary. He's slated to be sentenced next month to life in prison without the possibility of parole.Brandon Acuna pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and awaits sentencing next month, while Galvan pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact and was sentenced last year to three years in county jail.RELATED COVERAGE:Closing arguments in trial for man accused of killing Navy sailor on freewayGunman kills good Samaritan in I-15 shooting near Mountain ViewLiberato was sentenced Wednesday to nine years and eight months in state prison.Prosecutors say the defendants took part in burglarizing a vehicle parked outside a Mount Hope home earlier that night and got into a shootout with one of the home's residents, resulting in at least one of the tires on Acuna's car being shot out.Forced to pull over due to the flat tire, Acuna and the others saw Adams stop on the side of the freeway. As he stopped to assist, Adams told his girlfriend, "I'm going to be a Good Samaritan today," Deputy District Attorney Melissa Vasel said at Edson Acuna's trial.RELATED COVERAGE:Suspect in shooting of Navy sailor on freeway has criminal historyMurder suspect's brother arrested in Mexico, charged with Good Samaritan's deathAcuna shot Adams as the Navy man stepped out of his vehicle, a killing the prosecutor described as "nothing less than an execution."Acuna's vehicle was found on the freeway about a half-mile from the shooting scene, with Brandon Acuna and Galvan arrested nearby.Liberato was arrested about a week later, while Edson Acuna was arrested that December in Mexico.Adams, a Brooklyn native, enlisted in the Navy in 2016. At the time of his death, he was working as a steelworker with Amphibious Construction Battalion 1 at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. 3028

By Sunday night, Santa Ana winds of 25-35 mph -- with isolated gusts up to 70 mph possible in some areas -- were expected to move in.Humidity was expected to drop rapidly to 5-10 percent on Monday as well, prompting the NWS to issue a fire weather watch for San Diego County, as well as Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, from 3 a.m. Monday to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The watch was set to be in effect for mountains, foothills and valleys, but the conditions could cause fire to spark anywhere.Moisture from the thunderstorm will help to alleviate the fire threat, but fuels will dry quickly on Monday, NWS forecasters said.Winds were predicted to gradually decrease Tuesday night and Wednesday, and conditions will be warm and sunny the remainder of the week, forecasters said. 1199
