SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Dance is a way to lose yourself and escape. For students taking the Ballet for Me! Class at the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet School in Balboa Park, dance is their escape.“I just love it cause it like brings me joy and it can take me to my happy place,” said Renata Scorza-Muniz.Renata has been taking regular ballet classes since she was 2 years old. But in February, her life changed.“It’s stressful, I guess, to be in the hospital,” said Renata.Renata was diagnosed with cancer, causing her to lose her vision and forcing her out of her regular ballet class. That’s when she turned to a class called Ballet for Me.“It’s just so fun to do,” said Renata.Ballet for Me is a tuition-waved class that is designed for kids with unique physical needs. Each student in the class gets paired up with a mentor to help guide them through each movement.“It just makes me so happy when I get to see students feel happy and free in class,” said Kerri DeNies instructor and creator of the class. This dance class helps the kids feel whole again. And all year they rehearse for their moment to shine and perform in front of a packed audience where they feel a little more joy and beam with confidence. 1213

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Car owners at a senior community in University City woke up to a messy surprise Tuesday morning. Louise, who asked 10news not to identity her, went to her SUV which was parked on Kantor Street, and her heart sank."I walked to my car and saw that the window had been burst.  It was terrifying," said Louise.Glass was everywhere and inside her vehicle was another mess.  Her glove compartment had been tossed, her insurance and registration scattered.  Nothing was missing, but Louise is nervous."Very afraid of the personal information now they know what address I'm actually at," said Louise. It appears someone took a bat or something like that to bash the window, before unlocking their passenger door.  Louise is not the only victim.  Nearby there were more vehicles hit, some 14 in all.  The windows on those vehicles were also shattered.  Some items were stolen and the repairs will cost hundreds of dollars for each incident."A lot of people on fixed incomes. This is really hurting them, because it is costly to put these windows in these cars," said Louise. If you have any information on the case, call the San Diego Police Department's Northern Division at 858-552-1700. 1245

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Come February, SeaWorld San Diego is hoping to fill the night sky over Mission Bay with the lights of a drone show. The California Coastal Commission began considering their proposal for a test run at a hearing near San Francisco Thursday. For decades, fireworks capped off a day of summer fun at SeaWorld. A few years ago - amid ongoing concerns over impacts on wildlife, water quality and pets - SeaWorld scaled back the shows, in favor of laser light shows. Now comes another high-flying option in the form of the drone light shows like those that have wowed at places like Universal Studios and Disney World. RELATED: SeaWorld San Diego says new dive coaster 'Mako' coming in 2020SeaWorld applied for a 15-night test run from February 4 through 18. Using GPS technology, more than 500 12-ounce drones would fly up to 400 feet in the sky, forming shapes with on-board lights in a five minute show, accompanied by music on the ground."I think it would be amazing to see it," said Alan Trachman, a Los Angeles resident who has visited SeaWorld San Diego about 15 times.Industry observers believe if successful, the drones could eventually replace some or all of the fireworks shows.RELATED: Groundbreaking held for SeaWorld's Sesame Place San Diego theme park in Chula VistaIf the idea is approved, SeaWorld will be required to monitor noise, light and any bird strikes during the test run. 1416

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Community members rallied Thursday to send a message to developers looking to build in Barrio Logan. This comes after a developer tried to bring an 80-room hotel to the area, but neighbors opposed it.Neighbors are worried the developers coming in would change the culture of the community. "I don't feel good at all. I think in the past, Barrio Logan has been assaulted and insulted," said resident David Heaney. "I'm afraid that they're going to go against the plan again, and there will be some kind of shenanigans where there the City Council will say it's done."Heaney has been living in his Barrio Logan home since 1998. It sits directly across from the proposed development site on Newton Avenue. RELATED: Gallery says gentrification is forcing them out of Barrio LoganProtestors gathered Thursday morning in opposition to the project and future developers who may want to come in. Last summer, a developer wanted to put a hotel at the location, but due to opposition from the community, it will now be a mixed-use space. Community members say there is simply no room for a project like a hotel or other large businesses because of the lack of parking in the area. Neighbors must have parking permits to park in the area. 10News reached out to developer Douglas W. Hamm, who initially proposed putting a hotel in the space. He sent a statement that read, in part: "I conveyed that I have zero interest in trying to build a project in their neighborhood that the community is not supportive of, much less opposes. That was the end of it then and remains the case today." 1602
