BEIJING/CHONGQING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- A team of Chinese and American scientists have discovered the world's only evidence of co-existing human beings and dinosaur tracks in a remote county in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, according to a paper published Saturday in the Geological Bulletin of China, a Chinese core academic journal.Qijiang County's Lianhua Baozhai, which means "Lotus Mountain Fortress" in Chinese, has a large number of dinosaur tracks as well as a well-preserved fortress and historical epigraph, forming a direct line of evidence that ancient Chinese people built a residence and lived there for a long time, said Xing Lida, one of three researchers with the project as well as a doctoral degree candidate with the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Alberta in Canada.Chinese people could have lived here for more than 700 years, and the mud cracks, ripple marks and duck-billed dinosaur tracks were considered by them to be lotus leaf veins, water environment and lotus, respectively, which is why they named it the Lotus Mountain Fortress, Xing Lida told Xinhua."Research shows that dinosaur tracks impacted ancient Chinese place names and folklore, so place names and folklore can be major clues for us in tracing dinosaur tracks," Xing said.According to the paper, the Lotus Mountain Fortress dinosaur tracks, the largest track group of cretaceous dinosaurs in southwestern China, contains 350 to 400 footprints that had been preserved in many ways, including concave footprints, convex footprints and multilayered footprints.

NANJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Police authorities in China's eastern Jiangsu Province on Sunday intensified their search for the suspect in an armed robbery in the province.Police have increased patrol and initiated a blanket search for the male suspect, who shot and robbed a man in front of a bank in Nanjing, the provincial capital, on Friday, the provincial public security bureau said in a statement.In Nanjing, special armed police and police cars have blocked major roads, with many others searching in public places. Two helicopters are used to facilitate the search.The provincial police authorities also offered a reward of 100,000 yuan (15,850 U.S. dollars) for information leading to the arrest of the man believed to be in his 40s.The suspect shot a man who had just finished withdrawing 200,000 yuan in front of a bank on Nanjing's Dongmen Street at 9:50 a.m. Friday. ATHENS, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) - A seven- month- old Libyan baby died in an Athens Children's hospital on Friday in the first fatality linked to the H1N1 flu virus of the new year in Greece, local authorities reported.According to local media reports citing Greek doctors who treated the boy, he had been infected with the virus in Libya, where he was diagnosed with common flu and received insufficient therapy, before transferred to Greece.An Ukrainian woman who is being treated in another Greek hospital for pneumonia is the second severe case of the swine flu to be reported in the country this season.Last year deaths caused by the H1N1 virus in Greece climbed exceeded the 100 victims and many more patients were treated for complications caused by the virus which first emerged in 2009 in Asia and developed into a worldwide pandemic.Greek Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) experts noted that Greece does not face a high risk so far this year, but suggested to people of vulnerable groups that reach up to 1.5 million persons in Greece, to get vaccinated.Last year's high number of fatalities was attributed to the fact that several people who should have been vaccinated, skimped vaccination which is not obligatory.

BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's new yuan-denominated lending in November rose 7.8 billion yuan (1.2 billion U.S. dollars) year-on-year to 562.2 billion yuan, the People's Bank of China, the central bank (PBOC), announced Wednesday.New loans in the month were smaller compared to that in October, which stood at 586.8 billion yuan.By the end of November, the outstanding broad money supply (M2), which covers cash in circulation and all deposits, rose 12.7 percent year-on-year to 82.55 trillion yuan, according to data released by the PBOC.Meanwhile, the narrow measure of money supply (M1), which covers cash in circulation plus demand deposits, increased 7.8 percent year-on-year to 28.14 trillion yuan by the end of last month, the figures showed.New yuan deposits last month fell sharply to 324.7 billion yuan, down 262.6 billion yuan year-on-year. Outstanding yuan-denominated deposits totaled 79.51 trillion yuan as of the end of last month, up 13.1 percent year-on-year, however, the growth rate was 6.5 percentage points lower compared to the same period last year.Meanwhile, outstanding foreign currencies-denominated deposits stood at 266.8 billion U.S. dollars, up 12.9 percent year-on-year. New deposits of foreign currencies rose 4.1 billion U.S. dollars year-on-year.
