TAMPA, Fla. — A volunteer at Carole Baskin's Big Cat Rescue in Tampa was bitten by a tiger Thursday morning and sustained "an extreme injury to her arm."According to the organization, Candy Couser — who has volunteered with the animal sanctuary for five years — was injured while feeding a 3-year-old Tiger named Kimba on Thursday.According to a press release, Baskin said that Kimba nearly tore Couser's arm "off her shoulder" as she tried to feed him. The volunteers, according to the release, helped Couser stem the bleeding until an ambulance arrived and took her to St. Joseph's Hospital.Couser is expected to survive the attack.In the release, Baskin said that Couser had reached into a cage to open a door that had been clipped shut and that she should have contacted a supervisor when she realized the door was clipped. She also said Couser had violated protocols by putting her arm inside a cage with a tiger."Candy was still conscious and insisted that she did not want Kimba Tiger to come to any harm for this mistake," Baskin said in her press release. "(Kimba) is being placed in quarantine for the next 30 days as a precaution, but was just acting normal due to the presence of food and the opportunity."Baskin and Big Cat Rescue were featured prominently in the massively popular Netflix docuseries "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.""Tiger King" spent much of its time focusing on the feud between Baskin and fellow big cat park owner Joe Exotic, which included accusations by him that Baskin was behind the disappearance of her ex-husband, Don Lewis. Baskin has denied those allegations and has not been charged with a crime in connection with Lewis' death.In January 2019, Joe Exotic was sentenced to 22 years in prison in connection with a murder-for-hire plot in an attempt to have Baskin killed. He was also convicted of several violations of the Endangered Species Act.Baskin was upset with how the show portrayed the captive tiger trade.Big Cat Rescue is closed to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak. TAMPA, Fla. — A kitten in Florida is recovering after being stabbed in the face with a dart.Jennifer Tate volunteers with the St. Francis Society Animal Rescue and she can’t wait to bring home the kitten.“We saved a cat about two and half years ago that had been shot with an arrow and we named him Sir Robin. So, we thought it would be appropriate to name her Maid Marian, the love interest of Sir Robin Hood," said Tate.Hillsborough County Animal Services is trying to find out who’s responsible for hurting the cat.“The person that found her said she could not open her mouth, so it had pierced all the way through and actually into part of her throat," Tate said.Someone found the kitten on Aimiee Court, south of Bearss Avenue in Tampa.“It’s horrific. How does somebody walk up to a cat and jam something into her face? And walk away. How do you sleep at night," said Tate.If Maid Marian is ready, she’ll have surgery Friday at Gulf Coast Veterinary Center.Tate will foster her, but eventually, the hope is the kitten will be adopted.“We want her to have the best life and to be able to put this behind her. Tax refunds, a lifeline for many Americans to help get caught up on bills, or to buy much-needed items, could once again take some time to reach Americans in 2021.Earlier this year, many tax payers complained about delayed refunds amid the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. The IRS sent many of its employees to work from home, resulting in delays in processing refunds. It was also difficult for many Americans to contact the IRS.Meanwhile, the IRS was processing millions of economic impact payments as most American adults were eligible to receive a ,200 payment from the federal government.The IRS advised tax payers on Tuesday to not rely on a tax refund coming by a certain date.“The IRS always cautions taxpayers not to rely on receiving a refund by a certain date, especially when making major purchases or paying bills,” the IRS said on Tuesday. “Some returns may require additional review and processing may take longer. For example, the IRS, along with its partners in the tax industry, continue to strengthen security reviews to help protect against identity theft and refund fraud. Just like last year, refunds for tax returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit [lnks.gd], cannot be issued before mid-February. This applies to the entire refund, even the portion not associated with these credits.”The IRS said that the fastest way for tax payers to obtain a refund is to file electronically and request payment via direct deposit.The IRS said that once a tax return is received, Americans can track their refund using the “Where’s My Refund” tool on its website.According to the IRS, the agency issued 122 million refunds for tax year 2019, totaling 2 billion. TEMPE, Ariz. — An Arizona woman said a man posing as a Lyft driver tried luring her into his car. Around 9 p.m. Saturday, Bradie Trippi was waiting to be picked up in a parking lot in Tempe, Arizona. The Lyft app showed her driver was a minute away when a man in a gold Infiniti sedan pulled up next to her, she said. “He says, ‘I’m your Lyft’ and then took a phone, flashed it in my face,” Trippi told KNXV. She said the man showed her the passenger app — not the driver app — and the letter “f” of the “Lyft” emblem on his car was backward. Given the fact the man did not match the photo of her driver or description of her driver’s car, Trippi declined to get in the car. “He got aggressive,” she said. “Told me to get in the car, he’s gonna kill me, called me the ‘b word’, started yelling the ‘f word’ at me — I got kind of scared.”When her actual Lyft driver arrived, Trippi said the man sped off. Lyft and Uber spokespeople told KNXV that passengers should always check to make sure the photo of their driver, description of the vehicle and license plate match up before getting inside. Passengers should ask open-ended questions to their driver, like “who are you here to pick up?” Instead of “Are you here to pick up [name]?”Trippi and her actual Lyft driver described the imposter driver as a bald, African-American man with an accent.
