Moments later, second lady Karen Pence mentioned Anthony, saying that women fought hard for the right to vote, and they should vote for Donald Trump.“100 years ago today, the 19th amendment was adopted into the United States Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to vote. Anthony and Lucy Stone women today, like our daughters, Audrey and Charlotte, and future generations will have their voices heard and their votes count,” Pence said.Last week, President Donald Trump issued a post humorous pardon to Anthony.The pardon was rejected by the Susan B. Anthony Museum.The museum’s CEO, Deborah L. Hughes, said in a statement that the best way to honor Anthony is to restore provisions of the Voting Rights Act.“If one wants to honor Susan B. Anthony today, a clear stance against any form of voter suppression would be welcome. Enforcement and expansion of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 would be celebrated, we must assure that states respect the 14th, 15th, and 19th Amendments to the United States Constitution,” Hughes said. “Support for the Equal Rights Amendment would be well received. Advocacy for human rights for all would be splendid. NEW YORK (AP) — Mail-in voting has gotten off to a rocky start in New York City, where election officials sent out a large number of absentee ballots with the wrong names and addresses on the return envelopes.The faulty ballots were sent to an unknown number of voters in Brooklyn and could result in ballots being voided if voters sign their own name on return envelopes bearing different names. More than 140,000 ballots have already been sent out so far across the borough. It was unclear how many people got the wrong envelopes.The city Board of Elections is blaming the problem on the vendor that was contracted to print and mail the ballots for voters in Brooklyn and Queens. Board of Elections head Michael J. Ryan says the proper ballots and envelopes will get to voters before the Nov. 3 election.But it’s unclear exactly how the city will handle voters who had already mailed their completed ballot back in the provided envelopes.Ryan said elections workers will reach out to voters by social media and, if available, by telephone and email addresses. And he said the board will ensure all received ballots are “appropriately processed” and tallied votes are “properly credited” to voters. 1207

NEW YORK (AP) — Microsoft said Friday it is permanently closing nearly all of its physical stores around the world.Like other retailers, the software and computing giant had to temporarily close all of its stores in late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Microsoft has 83 stores, including 72 stores in the U.S., where it showcases and sells laptops and other hardware.The company says it will "reimagine" spaces that serve all customers, including operating Microsoft Experience Centers in London, NYC, Sydney, and Redmond campus locations.Friday’s announcement reflects what the company calls a “strategic change” for its retail business as sales increasingly shift online.Microsoft said all employees would have the opportunity to remain with the company. Retail workers will continue to serve customers from corporate facilities and remotely, providing sales, training and support.Microsoft says it will continue to invest in its digital storefronts on Microsoft.com, and stores in Xbox and Windows, reaching more than 1.2 billion people every month in 190 markets.“Our sales have grown online as our product portfolio has evolved to largely digital offerings, and our talented team has proven success serving customers beyond any physical location,” said Microsoft Corporate Vice President David Porter. “We are grateful to our Microsoft Store customers and we look forward to continuing to serve them online and with our retail sales team at Microsoft corporate locations.” 1488

Newly released police body cam shows Waffle House shooting suspect Travis Reinking in East Tennessee two months before the Antioch attack.It's video from a motel in Alcoa, where Reinking was staying in February while working on a construction project. Full Coverage: Antioch Waffle House ShootingOne clip showed one of his several run-ins with the law. One of those run-ins happened just two months ago.Reinking told the officer someone kept knocking on his window and yelling. However, it was a woman who called police on him for allegedly threatening her in a violent manner. "They'll be talking loud at night, knock on the windows and walk off, and I don't know who it is,” Reinking said in the clip. Samantha Veals said she was trying to put her kids to sleep when she heard Reinking yelling.She told him to be quiet, at which point he allegedly charged inside her motel room, balled up his fist and laughed at her when she screamed.  Reinking admitted to police that he yelled at Veals but denied charging at her. He checked out of the motel that night and Veals opted to not press charges. Reinking?was arrested Monday and charged with four counts of criminal homicide, four counts of attempted murder and one count of unlawful gun possession in the commission of a violent felony.  The Waffle House reopened Wednesday and for the next month, is donating 100 percent of its proceeds to the victims of the attack.  More:  1514

NEW YORK — Businessman and former presidential candidate Andrew Yang has filed papers to enter the already crowded Democratic field in the race for mayor of New York City in 2021. Yang filed papers with the New York City Campaign Finance Board Wednesday to join the race. Yang, a CNN commentator following his run for president, now arguably has the highest national profile of any of the candidates. The former ambassador for global entrepreneurship under President Barack Obama has not officially announced his run. Yang grew up in Westchester County, went to law school at Columbia and began his legal career in New York City. The NYC CFB said that Yang is joining the city’s -to- matching funds program.
