RAMONA, CA (KGTV) -- Thanks to the San Diego Humane Society's Project Wildlife, an orphaned mountain lion pup has a second chance at life. The Humane Society acquired the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona on September 1st, and the very next day, the 12 week old mountain lion pup was their very first patient."We got a call from California Fish and Wildlife," says Project Wildlife Director Andy Blue. "That a firefighter had found a mountain lion cub in distress up near Idyllwild."The female cub was found semi-conscious, extremely emaciated, and dehydrated."When she first arrived here in Ramona, she appeared to be in pretty bad shape, and I wasn't sure she was going to survive."That's when the Project Wildlife team stepped in and provided the cub life saving treatment."We immediately gave her critical care supplies, got a diet syringe fed to her, and did everything we needed to do to turn it around."And a little over a month later, with the great care from Project Wildlife, Blue says the cub is expected to make a full recovery. "Now she is completely stable and will most likely be going to another facility in Arizona." You might think that once animals have rehabbed, they would be let back out into the wild.. Well that's not always the case.""Because she's had so much human contact, we really can't release her back into the wild. Remote learning is a new challenge for many students who were previously used to roughly eight hours of face-to-face learning in a classroom each day.Some students are struggling to learn in this new environment, and while some parents can afford a tutor to bridge any learning gap, most families simply cannot. However, there are some new affordable and even free live tutoring options for those families.“We developed out two new products to aid our customers,” said Steven Cox, the CEO and Founder of TakeLessons.com.Take Lessons originally offered 1-on-1 tutoring online, but since the pandemic started it has launched two more affordable, live group tutoring programs. The first option is a month and offers unlimited live-tutoring sessions. The only catch is instead of the lessons being 1-on-1, each lesson is with a group of five to 20 students at a time.“It’s really a tremendous benefit for people who still need to get great education with quality teachers but simply it is out of their range to do private lessons,” said Cox.For some families, though, even a month is more than they can afford, so Take Lessons now has a free option. This option allows students to watch a live lesson, but instead of video chatting with a tutor, they have to message them. (KGTV) - A new overpass may be destined for the I-15, not for people but mountain lions.A just-released study led by The Nature Conservancy and backed by the National Park Service recommended a stretch of the I-15 just south of Temecula - either an overpass or underpass like crossings in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming - allowing mountain lions and other wildlife to safely get across.On the west side of the highway is preserve space owned by San Diego State University.  On the other side are 73 acres just purchased by The Nature Conservancy.  Experts says the local mountain lions have been cut off by the freeways and are practicing inbreeding."That makes them more susceptible to disease, and that could be catastrophic for the mountain lion population," said Cara Lacey, an associate program director at The Nature Conservancy.Lacey points out crossings in other states have also cut down on vehicle collisions with wildlife.  She says at least three mountain lions were struck by vehicles in that stretch of I-15 in 2017.  Caltrans is studying a crossing on Highway 101, which would cost between and million. 1165

President Donald Trump signed two pieces of legislation into law on Wednesday that aim to inform consumers about drug prices.Both measures, the Know the Lowest Price Act and the Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act, aim to end the drug industry's so-called gag orders of pharmacists, which prevent them from discussing cheaper price options with consumers. These price options include discussing whether a medication may be less expensive if using insurance or paying out-of-pocket.At Wednesday's signing, the President called the gag clauses "unjust" and said the legislation would lower drug prices that are "way out of whack" and "way too high.""It's called the law of supply and demand. They didn't want to have that. But now we have that and it's going to lower drug prices," Trump added.Both the President and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said at the signing that they expect further regulatory action on reducing drug prices in the coming months.Some states and municipalities have pharmacy gag order bans, but the Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act, sponsored by Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins, addresses banning the practice of gag orders on a federal level. The Know the Lowest Price Act, sponsored by Michigan Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, prohibits Medicare drug plans from putting a gag clause on a pharmacy in their contracts.Collins and Stabenow were present at Wednesday's signing, as well as Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander, Louisiana Republican Sen.
