For the fourth time in just over a week, losses by the Dow Jones Industrial Average triggered a circuit-breaker.The Dow had dropped 7 percent by early afternoon Wednesday, and trading was halted for 15 minutes. At the time of the trading halt, the Dow had fallen below where it had been when President Donald Trump was inaugurated in January 2017.The drop came after futures fell sharply overnight, signaling a tough day ahead for markets.By the end of the day, the Dow leveled off, closing down 6.3% for the day, losing 1,333 points from yesterday's totals. The Dow closed below, 20,000 points for the first time in more than three years. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen 28 percent since hitting its all-time high in February. On Tuesday, the Dow recovered slightly from historic losses on Monday on the back of President Donald Trump's talk of a stimulus plan. Trump and administration officials said they are considering sending Americans cash directly within a matter of weeks in an attempt to boost the economy amid quarantines caused by the coronavirus pandemic. 1090

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — A woman accused of killing her newborn daughter and then tossing the baby over a fence into a neighbor’s backyard was found guilty of first-degree murder.A Douglas County, Colorado, jury handed down the verdict against Camille Wasinger-Konrad Tuesday, according to a release from the 18th Judicial District. The 25-year-old Colorado woman was also convicted of tampering with physical evidence and the position-of-trust murder charge.Wasinger-Konrad was renting a room in a home of a Highlands Ranch, Colorado, family. Early in the morning of Jan. 2, 2018, she gave birth to a girl in her bedroom. She covered the baby’s mouth and nose to stop her from crying so as not to awaken others, the release read.Wasinger-Konrad then carried the newborn downstairs to the back deck. She threw the baby into the backyard of a neighbor, according to prosecutors. The neighbor found the dead child at 9:48 p.m. that night and called the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.“This tiny baby was smothered by her mother, flung over a neighbor’s fence and left to die by the only human she had ever known,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Christopher Gallo said during closing arguments. “This defendant hurled her newborn 11 feet over an 8-foot fence, knowingly consigning her to her death. This little girl died in the cold without the dignity of even a name.”Sentencing is set for Nov. 15. The mandatory sentence is life in prison without possibility of parole.Colorado has a “Safe Haven Law” which allows new parents to hand over infants up to 72 hours old to employees at fire stations or hospitals with no questions asked so long as the baby is unharmed. This article was originally written by Robert Garrison for 1736

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A man in Florida has been arrested after he admitted to critically injuring a newborn that was under his care after the baby woke him up shortly after a recent feeding, deputies say. Aaron James Bordelon, 29, has been charged with Felony Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm Child Neglect with Great Bodily Harm. The 16-day-old child is in critical condition, suffering from skull fractures and severe traumatic brain injury. Bordelon told deputies he "forcefully" picked up the baby and admitted "this is my fault." Shortly after picking up the child he said the child's physical condition deteriorated, breathing slowed and bruising under the eyes and on the eyelids was visible. Bordelon did not call for immediate medical attention at the time, according to the Sheriff's Office. When the newborn's mother arrived at their location, Bordelon ordered a Lyft ride share and took the child to Brandon Regional Hospital. According to a press release, Bordelon attempted to conceal the bruising on the newborn with makeup but the mother tried to remove it before they arrived at the emergency room, according to deputies. "Abuse in any form is unacceptable and this case is especially tragic and emotionally difficult for our detectives as it involves an innocent and defenseless child" said Sheriff Chad Chronister. 1355
