(KGTV) — Saturday, President Donald Trump signed a law approving the use of 9-8-8 as the universal telephone number to reach the National Suicide Prevention Hotline starting in 2022.The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, which was passed by the U.S. House in September after being approved by the Senate and Federal Communications Commission, will allow individuals to dial the three digits 9-8-8 as opposed to the previous 10-digit hotline number, which is currently 1-800-273-8255 (TALK), CNN reported.The new number will take effect in July 2022.The bill allows states to collect fees aimed at ensuring local crisis centers can support increased volume and directs federal health agencies to submit a report to Congress on strategies to improve support services for LGBTQ youth, minorities, and individuals in rural counties, who are at a higher risk for suicide.In 2019, the FCC estimated that the costs of implementing a three-digit hotline for the first year would be about 0 million and 5 million in the second year, which includes costs for call-center capacity and public awareness campaign. (KGTV) - The developer of the proposed Newland Sierra project is promising to prioritize 500 new homes to first responders, military, veterans and teachers. The commitment was enough to earn the controversial development the endorsement of San Diego Police Officers Association on Monday. It's the third major public safety organization to endorse the plan, which heads to voters countywide in March. CalFire Local 2881 and the San Diego County Deputy Sheriff's Association are already backing the project. "Projects like this that are building those middle-income houses, especially the ones that prioritize us, we're going to support them," said Jack Schaeffer, president of the Police Officers Association. A 19-year-old man was detained in Germany on Tuesday after police found him carrying a 2-foot long python in his pants.According to the Associated Press, the unidentified man was detained by police in Darmstadt after having a loud drunken argument with another man. When police searched the teenager, they found "a significant bulge" in his pants.The man then told police he had a snake in his pants and pulled it out to show officers. According to the BBC, police believe the baby king python may belong to one of the man's relatives.The teen was taken into a jail cell to sleep if off.
