HARARE, July 7 (Xinhua) --The eighth session of the Zimbabwe/ China joint permanent commission ended in Harare on Wednesday with a pledge by the two countries to widen and deepen economic cooperation.The two countries discussed ways of enhancing various cooperation projects already being implemented and new ones in the energy, agriculture, manufacturing, transport, tourism and water sectors.An agreement was also signed for China to provide 1.5 million U. S. dollars to the China-Zimbabwe Friendship Hospital in Mahusekwa, Mashonaland East Province, for medical equipment and drugs.The hospital is part of the several projects that include two primary schools and an agricultural demonstration center that China is constructing in Zimbabwe as part of the eight measures agreed to at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in 2006 in Beijing.Other support from China includes a 200 million U.S. dollars buyer's credit facility extended by the China Exim Bank for procurement of agricultural inputs to boost food production in Zimbabwe.Zimbabwean foreign minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi praised China for setting a shining example to other world donors by honoring pledges it made to assist Zimbabwe under the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation.Mumbengegwi noted that under the eight measures enunciated by Chinese President Hu Jintao at the FOCAC heads of state summit in Beijing in 2006, projects earmarked for Zimbabwe are now at various stages of completion.The Chinese government has also dispatched 10 agricultural experts and 23 volunteers to buttress the cooperation."By successfully implementing these measures, China has set a shining example for other donors and international cooperating partners who do not always honor their commitments," Mumbengegwi said at the opening of the eight session.He said Zimbabwe is also willing to learn and benefit from China's experience and expertise in the economic sphere, which has transformed the country into a global economic powerhouse."Zimbabwe will, therefore, welcome Chinese investment and is ready to discuss during the joint commission specific projects in the energy, agriculture, manufacturing, transport, tourism and water sectors," he said.Mumbengegwi thanked China Exim Bank for extending the 200 million U.S. dollars buyer's credit loan repayment period from five to eight years, saying this would give Zimbabwe the breathing space to turn around its economy and enhance capacity to repay loans extended by China."The payment of the arrears and extension of the repayment period on the 200 million U.S. dollars buyer's credit loan have paved the way for increased cooperation between Zimbabwe and China, " he said.While hailing China as a good example of a reliable and dependent donor partner, Mumbengegwi said he hoped the Asian country will similarly implement new eight measures announced by Premier Wen Jiabao at the fourth ministerial conference of FOCAC held in Egypt last year.He said the projects that have been identified for implementation in Zimbabwe are in critical sectors of energy, water, health, education, agriculture and social infrastructure.

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China continued a five-day military exercise on Wednesday as the country's air defense forces carried out reconnaissance, early warning, electromagnetic interference and ground-to-air attack drills.More than 12,000 Chinese military personnel, along with seven types of military aircraft divided into Red and Blue rivals, took part in the exercise code-named "Vanguard-2010,"-- which started on Tuesday in seven cities across Henan and Shandong Provinces.On Wednesday morning, the Blue forces used reconnaissance planes and electronics warfare aircraft to conduct surveillance and jam the network systems used by the Red forces for command and communications as well as reconnaissance and early warning.A ground-to-air attack drill began at Wednesday noon, as the Blue forces launched unmanned aerial vehicles, fighters and helicopters to attack their rivals.The ground-to-air attack drill will last overnight till 6 a.m. Thursday, military sources said.

BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) on Wednesday launched an online database on Marxist theory by uploading the Party's major political doctrines to an Internet website, an effort that analysts said is promoting its ideology through information technology.Uploaded contents to www.ccpph.com.cn include collected works in Chinese of Karl Marx, Frederick Engels, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, as well as former CPC leaders Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin.All the works are available free of charge for Internet users to read, while visually impaired readers can listen to recorded voices reciting the content in Chinese.The website also contains dozens of works explaining the doctrines, research of the communist party as well as the CPC's important documents, files and speeches of General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Hu Jintao and other current leaders.The database is sponsored by People's Publishing House, copyright owner of those Chinese works and major publisher of translated works of foreign political figures in China.Liu Binjie, Director of General Administration of Press and Publication, said that the official launch of these works on the Internet would expand the spread of Marxist theories.The world has entered an era when information, digitalization and other new communication methods are booming, said Huang Shuyuan, president of the People's Publishing House.The more advanced and powerful communication methods a party uses, the more influential it will be, Huang said.To help online readers find a classic Marxist reading, the database of the website provides a smart search function which finds the origin based on fractional words that readers input."It will greatly help researchers on Marxist doctrines like me, since many of those works could only be available in libraries," said Professor Zhang Guangming with the School of International Relations of Peking University."We could search for information about Marxist works at any time in my reading room," Zhang said.Prof. Zhang Xixian with the Party School of the CPC Central Committee said that the online database represents a new trend for the Party to promote its theories in a more attractive way.By the end of last year, the number of Internet users in China had reached 384 million users, covering about 28.9 percent of the country's total population.Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also attached great importance to the publication of the Party's theories by using multimedia technologies.The People's Publishing House plans to digitalize its 3.6 billion-word Marxist theories books within two years to complete the database and provide it free of charge to the public.

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) - The People's Bank of China (PBOC), also known as the central bank, said Thursday it would maintain its moderately loose monetary policy and enhance financial supports to boost the economy's sustainable development.The bank will apply multiple monetary tools to keep an appropriate growth in money supply in a bid to strike a balance between meeting the need of funding economic development and managing the inflation expectation, the PBOC said in a statement posted on its website.The PBOC reiterated it would maintain continuity and stability in monetary policy while, at the same time, making the policy more specific and more flexible.It vowed to improve the yuan's exchange rate mechanism, and increase financial support to promote the transformation of the economic growth pattern and adjustment of the economic structure.China's broad money supply (M2), which covers cash in circulation and all deposits, increased 18.5 percent year on year to 67.39 trillion yuan by the end of June, which marked a slowdown from the 21 percent increase at the end of May, the PBOC said.During the same period, narrow money supply (M1), cash in circulation plus current corporate deposits, climbed 24.6 percent from a year earlier to 24.06 trillion yuan, representing a decrease of 5.3 percentage points from the end of May, according to the PBOC.The bank also warned of potential domestic inflation risks due to complicated situations both at home and abroad.Increases in the costs of labor and environmental requirements, combined with continuing progresses in the reforms in the prices of resource products, will likely impact the inflation expectation.Meanwhile, the central bank pointed out that external 'hot money' may push up price hike pressures."The global monetary situation is relatively loose, as nations across the world have been prudent in their stimulus exits due to continuing uncertainties in the economic recovery.
