SAN DIEGO (CNS) - According to a report released Thursday by the San Diego Association of Governments, drug use reached a 20-year high among men and women arrested and booked into San Diego County detention facilities in 2019.Nearly four in five male arrestees (79%) and 82% of female arrestees tested positive for at least one of the following drugs: marijuana, methamphetamines, opiates, cocaine, and PCP, according to the report by SANDAG's Criminal Justice Research Division.The lowest rates in the past 20 years for arrestees testing positive were in 2009 for men (56%) and 2008 for women (58%).Meth showed up the most in the survey results in 2019, with 66% of women and 55% of men testing positive for the drug. Those rates were also 20-year highs and were up 4% among women compared to 2018. The rate among men remained unchanged from 2018 to 2019.On average, meth-using arrestees in 2019 reported using the drug for about 15 years, using before their 22nd birthday, and using more than 19 days ina row over the last 30 days.The surveys also found that 36% of arrestees tested positive for multiple drugs, 65% reported ever being homeless, and 83% reported being arrested at least one other time in the past. According to the report, when arrestees tested positive for multiple drugs, it was most often meth and marijuana. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Masked intruders threatened a couple with guns and slashed the male victim with a knife today during a daybreak residential robbery in a Corridor-area neighborhood.The 27-year-old man and 20-year-old woman awoke at their residence in the 3200 block of Bramson Place about 6:30 a.m. to find the thieves next to their bed, pointing guns at them and demanding valuables, according to San Diego police. One of the intruders held a knife to the man's throat, Officer Robert Heims said.During the robbery, the male victim suffered several cuts, Heims said.Details on the severity of the wounds were not released.The thieves stole an unknown amount and type of items from the couple before fleeing, according to police. 738

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A thief armed with a pistol robbed an 18-year-old San Diego State University student near the southern outskirts of the college campus early Thursday.The victim was walking in the 5500 block of Montezuma Road when the robber confronted him about 12:45 a.m., according to SDSU police.After stealing the student's wallet, the bandit fled to a waiting white Toyota Prius and was driven out of the area by an accomplice. No injuriesor gunfire were reported.The robber was described as a thin, roughly 5-foot-10-inch black man in his late teens or early 20s, wearing black pants and a white shirt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Homicide detectives Friday were investigating the death of a man who was found unconscious in a Midway District parking lot.Dispatchers received a call around 10 p.m. Thursday from a person who reported finding the man in a parking lot in the 3700 block of Rosecrans Street, San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown said.Officers and paramedics responded to the scene and were directed to the 31-year-old victim, who had suffered trauma to his upper body, Brown said.The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m., the lieutenant said. His name was withheld pending family notification.Police announced Monday that Zarchari Mock, 29, was arrested in connection with the homicide.
