EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The pandemic created a surge in food insecurity in San Diego and the purple tier restrictions are making it worse. Neighbors are stepping in to fill the bellies of those in need.In El Cajon a bright yellow wooden box is perched next to the sidewalk. On it a sign reads, "Blessing Box".Inside it's stocked like a mini grocery store, with grains like rice and pasta, beans, canned vegetables and protein. Single serving hot chocolate, tea and oatmeal line the second shelf. On the top shelf, snacks, drinks, and items to round out a meal are ready for the taking.Andrea Roberts heard of a Blessing Box in 2018 on social media and immediately knew she needed one.Her friend had the same intuition and had her husband craft the wooden box. They surprised Roberts by dropping it off on her porch.Roberts painted the box, affixed a stand to it, and cemented the stand in the grass next to her sidewalk in September 2018.Momentum has been growing through social media and the urge to help during the pandemic."Yesterday was jam packed, I had several people come and bring stuff, so much stuff they left the excess on the porch," Roberts said.She lifted her garage door to unveil piles of food and shelves of canned food, illustrating the willingness to give by the community."I'm overwhelmed, really overwhelmed." Roberts said when she put up the box she thought it would be self sustaining, 'take what you need and give what you can.'Since the pandemic, she said, there's been a surge in need and donations.According to the San Diego Hunger Coalition, more than 1,000,000 San Diegans are food insecure.That translates to three out of every ten people in the county don't know where they'll get their next meal."My hope is just that people find a resource where there is no shame no timeline, if you're working and you're barely making it. DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three fires burned in rural East County Wednesday afternoon as Cal Fire worked to extinguish the flames. According to Cal Fire, all three of the fires sparked in the community of Dulzura along Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Freezer Road. Video of the blaze shows traffic in the area backed up for several miles after crews closed Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Barrett Lake Road. Around 5:30 p.m., Cal Fire said crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread of all three fires. In total, all three fires burned slightly less than 32 acres. Sky10 was live over the fire. During a phone interview with Fox Business on Thursday morning — his first TV interview since contracting COVID-19 — President Donald Trump said that while he hasn't been tested for the virus recently, his health is continuing to improve."I'm essentially very clean," Trump told Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo.Trump added that he would be tested again for the virus "very soon" to determine if he's still infected.The President also added that he doesn't "feel" like he could spread the virus to others."No, I don't think I'm contagious. I don't think I'm contagious at all," Trump said.According to the CDC, people infected with COVID-19 can still spread the virus, even if they are asymptomatic. The virus is typically active in humans for about two weeks, though it can last longer.The White House has refused to report when Trump last tested negative for the virus, but Trump announced his positive test on Friday, meaning he may be contagious for about another week.White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said on Wednesday that Trump would like to begin working from the Oval Office and that White House staff would implement safety precautions to make that happen. The CDC recommends those who are infected with the virus remain quarantined.Trump also falsely said Thursday that he's now "immune" to COVID-19."Remember, when you catch it, you get better, and then you're immune, you know?" Trump said. "As soon as everything goes away for me, you're immune."There are several documented cases where people who had previously contracted COVID-19 caught it again — though they suffered less severe symptoms. (KGTV)— Family and friends of 19-year-old Kiera Bergman gathered at the Ronald Reagan Community Center to celebrate her life. A month-long search ended in a body discovery in the Arizona desert. Her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old John Clark is accused of killing her. Kiera Bergman was the eldest daughter of the Bergman-Bragg family. Her mother Kiersten Bragg remembered Kiera had a strong personality, even before she was born.“I never forget I would always crave SpaghettiOs and that was one of her favorite things to eat,” Bragg said. She said as a teen Kiera would crave the canned spaghetti. Her family told 10News, Kiera was a spunky, playful, chunky toddler. "I always compared her to the Michelin man because she had tons of rolls everywhere,” her mother laughed. Then she became a big sister to Braydee. Kiera was silly, artistic, a talented singer, with a big heart. In his speech at the ceremony, her grandfather shared the time she spent her first ever paycheck from her part-time job on the homeless.“She bought the lady lunch. And I don't know many teenagers who will take their first paycheck and do that. So that kind of shows you what kind of girl she was,” Jim Bergman said, in tears. They said Kiera hoped to one day combine her giving personality with her dream job - America's best hairstylist.“Her dream was to at least once or twice a month, go to the homeless and do their hair and make them feel better about themselves,” Bragg said. But she was not able to live out her dream. Her boyfriend at the time, John Clark, convinced her to drop out of Cosmetology school.
