Even as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and the Trump administration continues to contest the results of the 2020 presidential election, the White House plans to hold its annual turkey pardoning ceremony next week, according to CNN and Fox News.President Donald Trump will reportedly take part in the annual tradition on Tuesday afternoon when he will issue a formal pardon to two Iowa turkeys - Corn and Cob.The public can vote for which turkey they'd like to see President Trump pardon and receive the title National Thanksgiving Turkey.According to The White House's Facebook page, Corn and Cob will stay at The Willard until the annual White House Turkey Pardon on Tuesday.In the past, the Turkey Pardoning Ceremony at the White House has drawn a crowd of spectators at the Rose Garden. It's unclear if the 2020 ceremony will be held in front of spectators.Trump has largely laid low since Election Day. He's held just three on-camera events since Nov. 3, one of which was a Veteran's Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, at which he did not address reporters. According to CNN, outside of playing a few rounds of golf on the weekends, Trump has not left the White House in several weeks.Following Tuesday's ceremony, the turkeys will live out their lives at Iowa State University. Last year, Trump pardoned two turkeys, "Bread" and "Butter," both of whom were sent to live at Virginia Tech following the ceremony.Legend has it that the first president to issue a pardon to a turkey was Abraham Lincoln, who did so at the request of his son. The first recorded pardon of a White House turkey was issued by President John F. Kennedy in 1963.While the Trumps typically spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Florida at their Mar-a-Lago estate, first lady Melania Trump announced this week the family would remain at the White House in 2020. 1852

But critics say there is vague guidance for what happens if there is a school outbreak.As states across the country weigh the risks of reopening schools this fall, the message from the White House has been loud and clear.Last week, President Donald Trump stated he would like schools to reopen, stating, “Yeah, I would like to see the schools opened, open 100 percent.”Most doctors, educators, and psychologists agree that going back to school would be in the best interest of students. I just haven't seen that kind of clear protocol yet.”Late last week, the CDC did issue new guidelines for school reopening. They include encouraging social distancing, spacing out desks and requiring face coverings.But the guidance leaves it up to states, schools and local health departments how to precisely handle an actual outbreak.“What we have is patchwork, not just across states, but even within states across communities,” said Dr. Jha. “States are turning over the responsibility to individual communities and saying, ‘You figure it out.’”Recommended strategies from the CDC’s guidelines include:Immediately separating staff and children with COVID-19 symptomsSetting up safe transport for anyone who is sick to their home or to a healthcare facilityClosing off areas used by a sick person, cleaning and disinfecting after 24 hours when possibleImmediately notifying health officials, staff, families and anyone who may have had close contact with an infected person while maintaining confidentiality lawsStill, there is concern.A recent survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found, “46 percent of Americans believe schools need major modifications to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, and another 31 percent think they shouldn’t reopen for in-person learning at all.”“We can open schools safely but key to that is making sure the level of community transmission is pretty low, so you don't have sort of raging wildfires in the community,” said Dr. Jha. “Because it's going to be very hard to keep those fires out of the school.” 2772

(KGTV) — A man has died after firefighters found him inside a North County home where a fire had ignited Sunday afternoon.Escondido Police said the fire was reported in the 600 block of Waverly Place just before 11:30 a.m. When firefighters and police officers arrived, heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the home.Firefighters entered the home to battle the flames and found an adult man unresponsive inside. The man was taken to Palomar Medical Center where he later died, police said. Federal authorities filed a lawsuit against a New Jersey landlord who allegedly demanded sexual favors from low-income tenants in exchange for housing assistance.On Wednesday, the Department of Justice filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against 73-year-old Joseph Centanni, who owns hundreds of rental units in and around Elizabeth, for "violating the Fair Housing Act by subjecting tenants to sexual harassment" since at least 2005.“The Fair Housing Act protects the right of all persons in our nation to rent a home without suffering sexual exploitation at the hands of abusive landlords. Demanding sexual favors from tenants, especially those who are financially vulnerable, is illegal,” said Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Civil Rights Division in a statement. “The Fair Housing Act protects tenants from sexual harassment and retaliation by their landlords, and the Justice Department will hold accountable those who engage in such cruel, depraved, and illegal conduct and will work tirelessly to obtain relief for their victims.”The complaint alleges Centanni demanded that current and prospective tenants provide him with sexual favors in exchange to keep their place or a reduced rate in rent, and threatened to evict anyone who rejected his advances.“No one should ever be forced to provide sexual favors, or otherwise endure sexual harassment, as a condition to keep or obtain housing,” U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said in a statement. “Sexual harassment in housing is illegal under the Fair Housing Act, and we will vigorously enforce this federal law to end this depraved type of behavior.”According to the complaint, one victim said she approached Centanni last year because she was having problems paying her rent. He said he'd help her with rental assistance, and she asked what she needed to do in exchange."He then brought her to an empty apartment," the court documents alleged. "There, he asked her for a massage and exposed himself. He then subjected her to unwanted sexual touching by using his hands to move both of hers to touch his testicles and penis as she said words to the effect of 'no' and 'don’t do that.'" Afterward, Centanni helped the woman apply for rental assistance, the lawsuit claims.Another woman said she went to Centanni last year stating she was having problems finding another place to live after agreeing to move out, the lawsuit alleges.The lawsuit states Centanni then took the woman to an empty storage room, after asking the tenant how badly she wanted to stay in her apartment.“There, Centanni exposed himself and asked for oral sex,” federal prosecutors allege. “Because she felt like she had no choice, the tenant submitted to Centanni’s sexual demand. After this incident, Centanni allowed her to stay in her apartment.”According to the complaint, Centanni participates in the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program (also known as “Section 8”) and receives approximately 2,000 each month in federal voucher payments. 2998

The EEOC?claimed it was a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964's Title VII, arguing dreadlocks are a "racial characteristic," according to NBC News.The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the company in this lawsuit has a "race-neutral grooming policy" and was not discriminatory, and dreadlocks are not a cultural practice, NBC News reported. 817
