The 21st Century Combined Arms Advanced Naval Technology Exercise is currently taking place at the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific). ANTX West 2019 is roughly two weeks long and features the brightest in the military, academia and industry demoing the latest advancements to see if they are ready for the battlefield. “This isn’t a trade show - this is ‘get people together let’s go do things and see how it goes,’” said Rear Admiral Donald Gabrielson, “this is innovation.” Much of technology of the the last several years has focused on human and machine interactions with virtual reality. “We can give feedback to the industry and say this is eligible for rapid prototyping or this needs some science and technology investment,” said Richard Byers, a systems engineer with the Navy. More than 80 developing products and systems are being tested at NIWC Pacific along with San Clemente island. “Being able to apply the technology in an operational a realistic environment is critically important,” said Brigadier General Christian Wortman, USMC.Congress has given the military the power to fast track products that perform well at ANTX for rapid prototyping and their discretion. 1290

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Filipino community in San Diego numbers around 200,000, second only to Latinos.This election the effort to get out the vote among that group has stepped up.Jo Ann Fields is among those getting out the word. She's been manning a phone bank nearly every day for the past few weeks. "It's important for us to get out the vote so we can grab the attention of our decision-makers and get things done," Fields said.Fields is the Government and Public Relations Director for the Asian Pacific Islander Initiative. The group does many things to support and advance its community, including civic engagement."We are the second largest ethnic group after Latinos we are the largest segment among Asian Pacific Islanders," says Fields.According to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters, more than 46,000 special language ballots have been requested in Filipino this year.Fields says there are several factors she thinks will encourage people to vote in record numbers, including having a Filipino candidate on the ballot, such as Todd Gloria, who is running for San Diego mayor."This is the first time someone from our community would be the leader of a city with 1 million-plus residents so that's really exciting," Fields said.The effort to get out the vote has been impacted by COVID-19, but the outreach is all done virtually this year."Phone banking is one way, text banking is another, virtual town hall like we will have Friday," Fields recalls.That town hall is designed to answer questions about how and when to vote. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego says it is working to earn back the public's trust after thousands of families got hit with erroneously high water bills this year. But the problems appear to be persisting. Ed Kitrosser and his wife just got a bill for 3, more than double the usual for their home in Pacific Beach."We're on automatic sprinklers. Nothing has changed, the setting has not been changed for several years," said Kitrosser. RELATED: Inside San Diego: Audit shows City sent thousands of faulty water billsKitrosser is one of about a dozen residents in the P.B. and La Jolla area complaining about outrageously high water bills they received in September.
