BONSALL, Calif. (KGTV) — A Carlsbad man was found dead after his vehicle was located down an embankment in the Bonsall area.A 77-year-old man was reported missing to Carlsbad Police earlier on Saturday before California Highway Patrol was also notified about the man. A location search of the man's mobile phone led authorities and family members to a location at Old Highway 395 and Interstate 15.CHP and family members responded to the scene, where a 2016 Mercedes was found down the embankment on Old Highway 395, below the road level and out of view from traffic. The missing man was found dead inside the vehicle. It wasn't clear what caused the crash, but CHP said impairment is not believed to be a factor.Anyone who may have information on the crash is asked to call CHP at 858-637-3800. 803

BASALT, Colo. — Firefighters battling the Lake Christine Fire got a special treat Friday when Neil Diamond stopped by to perform “Sweet Caroline” and other songs for them.Diamond and his wife came by an Incident Command Post to meet and thank the firefighters who have been fighting the blaze, which was estimated at 12,588 acres Sunday evening. The fire is 82 percent contained.In a separate video, he points a finger at the firefighters.“Now, you have to save my house,” he said.Diamond has lived in the area for about 20 years.He said he wanted to thank the firefighters for coming to the area and lifting the heaviness in the community members’ hearts.“We know the cavalry is here,” he said in the video. “We say thank you of each of you.”  Watch the video of the impromptu concert here. 804

BERLIN (AP) — German pharma giant Bayer says it’s paying up to .9 billion to settle a lawsuit over subsidiary Monsanto’s weedkiller Roundup.Monsanto has faced numerous lawsuits over claims it causes cancer.In a statement Wednesday, Bayer said it was also paying up .22 billion to settle two further cases, one involving PCB in water.The Leverkusen, Germany-based company said the Roundup settlement would “bring closure to approximately 75%” of the current 125,000 filed and unfiled claims.The company said the settlement also puts a mechanism in place to resolve potential future claims efficiently.It said the agreement is subject to approval by Judge Vince Chhabria of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.“First and foremost, the Roundup settlement is the right action at the right time for Bayer to bring a long period of uncertainty to an end,” said Werner Baumann, Chief Executive Officer of Bayer. “It resolves most current claims and puts in place a clear mechanism to manage risks of potential future litigation. It is financially reasonable when viewed against the significant financial risks of continued, multi-year litigation and the related impacts to our reputation and to our business. The decision to resolve the Roundup litigation enables us to focus fully on the critical supply of healthcare and food. BOSTON (AP) — Actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, will be able to continue using a law firm that recently represented the University of Southern California, which is an alleged victim in the sweeping college admissions bribery case, a federal judge allowed Tuesday.But Magistrate Judge M. Page Kelley declined to rule on a different potential conflict of interest in the couple's legal representation and said she would decide later, calling it more serious.Giannulli, who created the Mossimo clothing brand, and Loughlin, who starred on TV's "Full House," mostly sat quietly through the brief proceedings in Boston federal court.They spoke up only to answer a series of short answer questions from the judge, acknowledging they each understood the legal risk of retaining the firms and the risks of being represented by the same firm.
