SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dozens of voters were left off the roster at a San Diego County polling place on Election Day, leading to frustration and delays. The problem was reported Tuesday morning at Pacific Trails Middle School at 5975 Village Center Loop Rd in Carmel Valley.Poll workers received an incomplete roster which omitted 46 names, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu confirmed. The list was missing two and a half pages.YOUR VOICE YOUR VOTE: 10News?Election CoverageVoters waited for voting officials to reprint another roster and deliver it to the polling place.Officials tried to ease the long line by calling the Registrar of Voters and getting approval for each person over the phone, a voter told 10News.Voters also had the option of voting provisionally, but many of them declined, telling 10News they wanted their votes to count. Provisional voting requires extra processing time to verify residences and identities. The San Diego Superior Court announced Monday it would have a judicial officer on hand to deal with any possible election-related issues, including registration, denial of registration of voters, certification or denial of certification of candidates or the certification or denial of certification of ballot measures.RELATED: Judicial officer on hand for Election DayVoters were encouraged to contact the Registrar of Voters at 858-565-5800 with any concerns. 1411

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Five more people have died from influenza in San Diego and weekly cases hit a season high this past week.County health officials said one of the flu deaths included a 40-year-old man from North County who had underlying medical conditions with no known flu vaccination record. The other deaths ranged from 47 to 90 years of age and all also had underlying medical conditions. This season, there have been a total of 54 influenza-related deaths in the county. At this time last year, there had been 318 deaths.RELATED: Is it a cold or a flu? Here are 5 ways you can tell, according to the CDC"Influenza can be deadly. People should continue getting vaccinated and taking other preventative measures, especially those at higher risk of developing complications," said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer, said. "In addition to getting vaccinated, people should practice good hand hygiene."Over last week, 675 flu cases were reported in San Diego County, a season high, according to County Health and Human Services. The number is up 21 percent of the week before, when 536 cases were recorded.Due to the increased flu activity, an order for unvaccinated medical personnel to to wear masks while in patient care areas has been extended until April 30.Flu shots are available at doctors' offices, retail pharmacies, community clinics and the county's public health centers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Homeowners in Logan Heights say people are living in RVs parked on their street, leaving behind trash and at times, even dumping human waste. The piles of trash on Logan Avenue include bags, clothes, and paint or plastic food containers. Some of the RV trailers even have cobwebs. A city ordinance says cars are not allowed to park continuously on any public roadway for more than 72 hours. Homeowners say the vehicles are sometimes ticketed and moved for a few days before they come back. In June, the city opened a safe parking lot in Misison Valley for people living out of their RVs. Neighbors say the issue has been reported to the city's Get It Done app multiple times and they've even reached out to their council member, Vivian Moreno.10News reached out to Moreno's office, and a spokesperson said they've reported the issue to the San Diego Police Department. The spokesperson added that they would continue to report any complaints and violations to the appropriate authorities. 1017

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Firefighters on alert after seeing the latest Wildland Fire Potential Outlook maps released by the National Interagency Fire Center. The maps show San Diego with an above average wildfire potential that increases from June through August and starts to wane slightly in September.Cal Fire Public Information Officer Thomas Shoots said the outlook focuses on three things; "We're dealing with fuel, weather and topography." Shoots said the agency can't do anything about the topography or weather, but every neighbor can do their part reducing fuel, especially around their home.RELATED: How to prepare defensible space around your homeShoots acknowledged the winter weather gave San Diego County a reprieve fire-wise, but it posed a new problem: new growth that's already drying out."A grass fire can run a lot faster and spread faster which means our resources are spread out quicker, and then that means it has the heat and momentum to build up to the bigger fuels," Shoots said.Just down the road, a neighbor had landscapers pruning her yard."I think it's very important to have this done...helps the whole neighborhood," said the woman named Gene.Cal Fire said the best time to get the landscaping work done is before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m.Last week, neighbors in Rancho Santa Fe saw the danger become a reality when Cal Fire said a landscaping crew using the lawn mower sparked a 3-acre fire near Fairbanks Ranch."It's starting to get to the point where it's too late; we need you to clear while we have the chance," Shoots said, referring to hot weather making these incidents more likely."We need all the help we can get," he said."Definitely, they've got a lot of work ahead of them, I think," Gene said.Cal Fire reported this year to June 16th, there have been 1,386 fires, burning 11,954 acres across the state. Last year at the same time, it was about half that, 2,154 fires, burning 20,791 acres. Cal Fire says fires are becoming more common, with 248 wildfires over the past week. 2023
