San Francisco police say they will stop releasing the mug shots of people who have been arrested unless they pose a threat to the public. Police Chief Bill Scott says the new policy starting Wednesday is aimed at stopping the spread of negative stereotypes of minorities. Jack Glaser, a public policy professor at the University of California Berkeley who researches racial stereotyping, says data shows Black people who are arrested are more likely to have their cases dismissed by prosecutors. But the mug shots live on. That contributes to Americans making an unfair association between people of color and crime. 624

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - Several people in a San Marcos gated community have reported being targets of package thieves, according to one victim who spoke with 10News. The Sheriff's Department is looking at surveillance video, which appears to provide several leads.Mikayla Manos says a package was sent to her home on Almond Drive Friday.  Manos is a mentor for foster children. The package contained the personal items of one of those children, which she was asked to deliver to him.  When Manos arrived home, she did not see the package.Manos checked with her next-door neighbor, who has a surveillance camera. Video from Friday afternoon shows a girl walking past Manos' home. She turns and points toward Manos' porch and can be heard saying "get it".The video shows what appears to be a boy picking something up from Manos' porch, although the package cannot be clearly seen from the camera angle. At least two voices can be heard off camera. One is heard saying "I can't wait to wear these to school tomorrow." Manos says clothes are among the items stolen.Manos says she knows of at least three other neighbors who were victims.  10News spotted an empty Nordstrom bag ripped open on one neighbor's porch, while another neighbor tells 10News someone stole items from his garage when he briefly left it open around the same time.Several package boxes were found dumped nearby, including Manos'. Some of the foster child's items were recovered, but many remain missing. 1498

SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) — Deputies are searching for a man who attempted to lure a child into his vehicle this week.A driver pulled alongside a nine-year-old girl riding her bike in the 8000 block of Poplin Dr. in Santee at about 6 p.m. Thursday and asked her if she would like a ride to a "game," San Diego Sheriff's Department says.The girl became scared and rode her bicycle back to her house. She was not injured, according to deputies. The suspect was described as a Caucasian male, about 60- to 70-years-old, with white hair, and wearing a red hat and chrome sunglasses. His vehicle was described as a 2-door, silver convertible with a black top, possibly a Honda. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's Department officials say no charges will be filed against a couple who wore a swastika mask at a Santee grocery store in May.SDSO said after investigating there wasn't enough evidence to charge the couple with a crime.On May 7, SDSO says a man and woman walked into a Food 4 Less wearing surgical masks with swastika symbols attached to them. The store's management asked the couple to remove the masks, and after they refused, deputies were called, SDSO said.Deputies arrived and asked the couple to also remove the masks, to which the man reportedly replied, "I'm not here promoting some Nazi propaganda. I'm here peacefully protesting against the Governor's insane lockdown."The man also told deputies he was upset and frustrated with the state lockdown.After deputies told the man the store has the right to refuse business and asked them again to remove their masks, they did."This incident should serve as a reminder for anyone contemplating wearing or displaying items closely associated with hate and human suffering that our society does not tolerate this behavior," an SDSO spokesperson said in a release. "Santee is a city of families and the community is rightfully disgusted at this couple's despicable behavior.
