OMAHA, Nebraska — Just before 5 p.m local time Monday, Omaha Police were called to the scene of a traffic incident involving a school bus near an intersection in North Omaha. Police later confirmed the boy, 8-year-old Haji Mohamed of Omaha, had died. According to a report from OPD received Monday night, "the investigation revealed that a Student Transportation of America school bus had come to a stop along Sprague Street just east of 22nd Street at a designated student drop off location."After several students disembarked the bus, the bus driver continued her route westbound on Sprague Street," the report states. "As the bus was traveling between 22nd Street and 23rd Street, an 8-year old male child who had just disembarked the bus, attempted to run across Sprague Street from north to south. As soon as the child entered the roadway, he was struck by the bus."The boy was transported by emergency personnel to Nebraska Medicine in extremely critical condition. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the boy was pronounced dead, the OPD release states.  Early OPD reports indicated the elementary-aged boy was transported with "extremely critical injuries" to Nebraska Medicine, said Sgt. Chuck Casey of the OPD incident unit, who gave an update near the scene. Omaha Public Schools later confirmed in a statement that the injured boy is a second-grader from Springville?Elementary School, located near 60th and Girard streets, about five miles northwest of the incident.The boy's family was with him at the hospital, Casey said.Early reports indicated the boy was struck by the front of the bus — the only vehicle involved in the incident — but the scene will be under investigation for some time, he said."At this time, Omaha Public Schools administrators, Student Transportation of America and OPS Student Transportation are cooperating with the Omaha Police Department as they investigate the incident," according to a statement from OPS early Monday evening. "Administrators are also supporting and working with the family of the student."Casey said initial reports were that the boy was a passenger on the bus. ORLANDO, Fla. – Disney World has closed a loophole that allowed guests not to wear face masks while walking around the park, if they were eating or drinking something.In its updated guidelines, the amusement park says you may still remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, “but you should be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing.”Before the guidelines were updated, visitors were reportedly seen walking throughout the park with beverages and food, but without masks.Face coverings are required for all guests at the park, ages 2 and up. The only other exception listed on the park’s website is while swimming.Disney says all face coverings must be made with at least two layers of breathable material, fully cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly but comfortably against the face, and be secured with ties or loops. On June 26, 2019, the City of Las Vegas Animal Control (Animal Control) responded to a call to pick up a dog that had bitten a child on the face. The Animal Foundation admitted the animal for the customary 10-day quarantine. On July 5, 2019, the City of Las Vegas released the animal from quarantine and on July 6, 2019, the animal was humanely euthanized. It was subsequently discovered by shelter management that the owner’s intent was to reclaim the dog after quarantine. The Animal Foundation has worked vigorously to identify the source of this tragic error and has determined the points of failure were an incorrect phone number listed for the owner, and employee non-compliance with data entry procedures. With 800-1000 animals in the shelter’s care daily, and over 80 more being admitted daily, data accuracy and timeliness are critical in maintaining operations. We have reached out to the owner and offered our condolences and other efforts to assist in any way possible. (KGTV) - A nonprofit stopped in San Diego Thursday to thank veterans, 1,000 feet in the sky.The Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation travels the country with their Boeing Stearman PT-17 biplane, an aircraft used for training during World War II.“In that plane, they’re 19, hot, and they’re rocking it!" said volunteer Lynn Sommars. "They come back and remember the person that’s been put away for some time.”Lynn's husband Mike also volunteers for the organization as a pilot.On Thursday Mike flew eight veterans who live at La Costa Glen, a senior living community in Carlsbad.One of the veterans they flew was Lloyd Anna, who logged nearly 5,000 flight miles during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.“Oh man, I was in heaven, close to it anyway!"
