SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's new dive coaster has shed its "Mako" moniker and will now nod to another of the park's coolest animals.SeaWorld announced Tuesday its dive coaster will be called "Emperor," a nod to Emperor penguins. The name is "a tribute to the Emperor penguins’ journey from chilly, frosted cliffs to their deep dive into the depths of the ocean," the park says.The ride will still be modeled after SeaWorld's other "Mako" coasters, taking riders more than 150 feet high, before sending them into a 143-foot face-down drop and through loops and turns at up to 60 miles per hour. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego runners take off in the first of three races this year as part of the Triple Crown series.The set of runs includes the Carlsbad Full or Half Marathon on Jan. 19, La Jolla Half Marathon on May 26, and America's Finest City Half Marathon on Aug. 16.To join the Triple Crown series, runners need only register to finish each event in the same calendar year, beginning in Carlsbad. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several San Diego families got their loved ones home in time for the holidays.The Crew of the Future USS Tulsa arrived in San Diego Wednesday.  The ship is a brand new littoral combat ship that completed its maiden voyage from the Austal Shipyard in Mobile Alabama.The crew, from San Diego, had been gone for eight months. Before arriving in San Diego, the ship made several port calls and completed a successful transit through the Panama Canal.The ship’s commissioning ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 16, 2019, in San Francisco.  That is when the vessel will officially join the fleet. 628

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starting Monday, San Diego County residents will be able to cast their ballots early for the Nov. 3 election.The San Diego County Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa, located at 5600 Overland Ave., will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to allow San Diegans to vote early.Due to coronavirus-related health and safety restrictions, voters must wear a mask and practice social distancing. There’s going to be a lot of changes in the next year or two,” Milburn told ABC 10News.Sisco added, “I had to come and vote. To be honest, I felt bad I didn’t start voting until Obama came into office. I should have been voting even back then.”Both decided to come early concerned about having to wait in long lines which election officials want people to be mindful of. Officials believe this election will bring out the county’s highest voter turnout to date.The San Diego County Democratic Party came to the Registrar of Voters to promote early voting, saying it will speed up the results.Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, the Chair of the San Diego Democratic Party, said, “If you want to have the count and not be waiting election night … The more people that vote early the better for everyone, the results will come in sooner.”In a statement sent to ABC 10News, the county’s Republican Party said they are “encouraging Republicans to vote early.”Meanwhile, officials said ballots are being mailed out on Monday to the 1.9 million registered voters in San Diego County.This summer, citing restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, state officials said all registered California voters would receive mail-in ballots.
