"Its' something that will help promote cross-Strait economic cooperation and bring win-win results. BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday released an inclusive list of illustrations on medicine use as guidance for doctors in writing prescriptions. It is the first state-level list of its kind in the country.The list illustrates what each kind of medicine should be used for, but it is not mandatory. Medicines on the list include all those on the National Basic Medicine Catalogue and the Catalogue of Drugs for Basic National Medical Insurance, and some other frequently used medicine, the ministry said.Cao Guirong, president of the Chinese Hospital Association, said at the release ceremony that compilation of the list borrowed the experience of developed countries and the World Health Organization (WHO) while taking into account China's geographic features and clinical therapeutic habits.It took two years for more than 100 domestic medical and pharmaceutical experts to complete the list, Cao said. It would be handed out to hospitals nationwide within the next few days in an effort to promote better medical service.

The mass movement of people is the largest human migration on the earth.In the southern Guangdong Province, China's business hub, about 100,000 migrant workers are expected to ride motorcycles to go home to neighboring Hunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi provinces, to avoid train jams and high train ticket prices."It will be a tiring 10-hour motorcycle ride, but I can save a lot of money by not taking a train," said a migrant worker surnamed Huang who set off at 6 a.m. Wednesday for his home in neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.Traffic police set up more than a dozen rest areas along major national highways so workers could warm their hands, drink some hot tea and repair their motorcycles before continuing their trip.Railway stations across the country have been crowded with millions of migrant workers carrying belongings and trying to buy tickets home. BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao Friday called for the mainland and Taiwan to enhance mutual political trust and strengthen the political foundation for a peaceful relationship.The mainland and Taiwan should uphold the principle that the two sides belong to one and the same China, Wen said in the government work report at the annual session of the National People's Congress, the top legislature.Wen hailed the progress made in mainland-Taiwan relations during the past year, saying that continuous improvement has brought real benefits to the people.Ties across the Taiwan Strait have warmed up in recent years, with the realization of direct air and sea transport links and postal services.The two sides are also negotiating about an economic pact, the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), which aims at normalizing trade and investment links.Wen said in the report that a unique economic cooperation mechanism would be established through negotiating and signing the ECFA.In an online chat with Internet users on Saturday, Wen said the mainland is willing to make concessions when negotiating."The reason is very simple: Taiwan compatriots are our brothers," he said.

BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Severe drought has affected 51 million Chinese and left more than 16 million people and 11 million livestock with drinking water shortages, China's State Commission of Disaster Relief said Friday.About 4.348 million hectares of farmland were affected and 940,200hectares would yield no harvest, the commission said in a statement.Since autumn last year, southwest China, including Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipality, has received only half its annual average rainfall and water stores are depleted. Photo taken on March 17, 2010 shows the thirsty fields of a terrace in Donglan County, southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The local government and people were mobilized to fight against the drought here.The commission said the ministries of finance, agriculture, civil affairs and water resources had appropriated more than 370 million yuan (54.4 million U.S. dollars) to the provinces, autonomous region and municipality to combat the drought.The funds are generally to be used to purchase drinking water, equipments and supplies for urgent water construction projects.More than 4,000 troops of Chinese People's Armed Police Force (PAPF) in Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangxi and Chongqing have been mobilized to help rural residents with water supplies.The PAPF detachment in Yuxi, Yunnan Province, has supplied more than 17 tonnes of its water reserve to 176 households in the province. In Sichuan, PAPF troops used their machinery to help pump underground water.In Guangxi, the PAPF troops transported water in trucks to 13 remote villages which were home to more than 7,000 farmers and 6,000 livestock.Weather forecasts show no obvious indications of rain in the drought region in the next 10 days.
