BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's official website for booking train tickets received a daily average of more than 1 billion hits during the first week of January, according to a railway official.Hu Yadong, vice minister of railways, said Sunday that the online ticket sales platform has provided consumers with a convenient way to buy tickets. He also addressed complaints about the fairness of the sales process."Train tickets sold online or by telephone have topped 2 million daily, meaning that around one-third of passengers don't have to wait in line at train stations for several hours to get a ticket," Hu said.However, many Chinese have expressed dissatisfaction with the website, with some people unable to get train tickets home for this year's Spring Festival holiday, a major holiday in China.Several customers posted their complaints on popular microblogging website weibo.com, stating that the booking site often failed due to "too many visits at the same time."The Spring Festival holiday is always a difficult time for China's public transportation authorities. ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday delivered portion of the first batch of emergency food assistance to Ethiopia.Wei Hongtian, Charge d'Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, handed over the assistance certificate to Wondirad Mandefro, Ethiopian State Minster of Agriculture, in a ceremony held at the Office of the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Food Security Sector (DRMFSS) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.The handover was witnessed by Ahmed Shide, Ethiopian State Minister of Finance and Economic Development, and Qian Zhaogang, Economic Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia as well as officials and diplomats from the two countries.The charge d'affairs said the Chinese government has decided to provide Ethiopia with two batches of gratis emergency food aid valued at some 24 million U.S. dollars, as part of humanitarian assistance to the people affected by drought in the Horn of Africa region, about which the international community is concerned much.Months ago, China pledged to provide humanitarian aid to drought affected people in Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti.The 2011 drought in the Horn of Africa region has affected livelihoods of over 12 million people in countries of the region including Ethiopia.In this move, China has delivered large quantities of wheat to Ethiopia, and it is put in the central warehouse in Adama town, 90 km away from Addis Ababa, as the first batch of the 8,139.4 tons of wheat and 715.15 tons of rice donated by the government of China, said Ethiopian State Minister of Agriculture.According to the minister, the Chinese government has pledged around 20,000 tons of emergency food valued at 24 million dollars.Wei said China attaches great importance to the agriculture development and the food security in Africa. He said China has engaged itself in various agricultural cooperations with African countries including Ethiopia, in different channels."In the future, besides food assistance, China's agricultural cooperation with Africa will focus on technology demonstration, personnel training, infrastructure construction, promotion of agricultural production and trade, and experience sharing agriculture development," said the Charge d'Affairs.The rest portion and the other batch of the emergency food assistance pledged by China is expected to come in November and December.Wei assured that the rest batches of emergency food aid would come to Ethiopia on schedule. BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhuanet) --  China is likely to test a new Internet protocol in the next few years in an attempt to further develop the country's Internet, senior officials from the State Council said on Friday.The country will put the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)-based network into small-scale commercial pilot use by the end of 2013, and deploy and commercialize the IPv6-based network on a large scale between 2014 and 2015, according to a statement released after an executive meeting of the State Council that was presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao."The development of IPv6 is one of the most important tasks for China's Internet industry during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, from 2011 to 2015," said Hu Qiheng, director-general of the Internet Society of China.Analysts believe the transition from the latest Internet protocol, IPv4, to IPv6 is irreversible. This year, the pool of Internet addresses in IPv4 has come close to being tapped out, and the supply of domain names has run short.Compared with IPv4, IPv6 will offer more IP addresses and, for that reason, more devices will be able to connect directly to the Internet, said Microsoft Corp, one of the main technical supporters of IPv6.By 2010, China had about 278 million IPv4 addresses, according to data from the China Internet Network Information Center. That was far fewer than the 450 million Internet users who live in the country."This is the first time the government has issued a schedule for IPv6 development, and it will benefit the entire industry," said Chen Qi, deputy general manager of BII Group Holding Ltd, an IPv6 service provider based in Beijing.IPv6 will enable telecommunication operators to allocate more IP addresses to their clients and will probably bring more users to those operators, Chen said.Five Chinese telecommunications carriers, including China Telecom Corp and China Mobile Ltd, had established IPv6 networks as early as 2006, the New York Times reported.China will need "far too many" IPv6 addresses in the coming years, according to Paul Wilson, director general of Asia Pacific Network Information Center, an organization responsible for allocating IP addresses.The profits made by Chinese manufacturers of telecommunications equipment, such as Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and ZTE Corporation, will also increase, a result partly of a rise in the demand for routers and Internet switches, Chen said.China launched the construction of the next-generation Internet in 2003, featuring the IPv6 network as a key technology.
