DETROIT — It's a video that has gone viral. A man running with deer in Oak Park, Michigan. It's like a moment straight out of a movie. "This is my parade," said Jared Wein in the viral video. "These are my pets. Sunday morning fun run!”Wein is now becoming known as the "Deer Whisperer.""I’ve heard deer whisperer," he said. "I’ve heard 'the next Disney princess.' "And really, how else can you explain Wein's wildlife magnetism?"Whenever I would stop, they would stop too, and then when I run they were running," Wein said.He was running from Royal Oak to Southfield to visit his wife at work. Wein saw the deer 20 feet away but never imagined they would join the run."I had no food on me," Wein said. "I may have smelled like salt from sweat but no food.""The deer’s behavior indicates to me (it's) used to people and that’s not necessarily a good thing to have regular contact with people," said Holly Vaughn, who works with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. She also cautions other people who may see deer in non-wildlife settings."Male deer especially can become aggressive toward people," Vaughn said. Wein says he feels very lucky."They never seemed aggressive," Wein said. "They seemed more curious than anything else."It’s a run he will never forget."I almost never run with my phone because I was meeting my wife," Wein said. Daryl Dragon, one half of popular '70s duo The Captain & Tennille, died Wednesday, according to his publicist Harlan Boll.Dragon, whose ever-present captain's hat left no doubt about which half of the duo he was, died of renal failure in Prescott, Arizona, Boll said."He was a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly," Toni Tennille said in a statement. "I was at my most creative in my life, when I was with him."Tennille was at Dragon's side when he passed away, Boll said.The duo's best-known songs included "Muskrat Love," "Do That to Me One More Time" and "Love Will Keep Us Together."Dragon, a classically trained pianist, was most at home behind the keyboard. One of his early gigs was as a backup musician for the Beach Boys in the mid '60s.Dragon and Tennille met in 1971 when she hired him to play piano for a musical called "Mother Earth." They married in 1975, a year after they signed a deal with A&M Records.Their first album produced the hit single "Love Will Keep Us Together," which enjoyed multiple weeks atop the Billboard chart.Dragon and Tennille separated in 2013 and finalized their divorce in 2014. They remained close friends.Dragon is survived by his older brother, Doug Dragon, and two nieces, Kelly Arbout and Renee Henn.Boll asked that any donations being made in Dragon's name be made to organizations doing research into brain diseases and conditions such as Parkinson's Disease or post-traumatic stress disorder. 1483

The data compiles reports from thousands of agencies, and indicates trends in criminal activity, and numbers of crimes committed nationwide. While the data indicates the number of criminal reports taken by law enforcement agencies, the FBI said that the data could have pitfalls and give an incomplete picture of crime in America. The FBI said due to a number of factors, comparing jurisdictions is discouraged. Here are some of the factors the FBI lists:Population density and degree of urbanization.Variations in composition of the population, particularly youth concentration.Stability of the population with respect to residents; mobility, commuting patterns, and transient factors.Economic conditions, including median income, poverty level, and job availability.Modes of transportation and highway systems.Cultural factors and educational, recreational, and religious characteristics.Family conditions with respect to divorce and family cohesiveness.Effective strength of law enforcement agencies.Administrative and investigative emphases on law enforcement.Policies of other components of the criminal justice system (i.e., prosecutorial, judicial, correctional, and probational).Citizens’ attitudes toward crime.Crime reporting practices of the citizenry."When providing/using agency-oriented statistics, the FBI cautions and, in fact, strongly discourages, data users against using rankings to evaluate locales or the effectiveness of their law enforcement agencies," the FBI said in a statement. While the FBI discourages comparing crime rates between cities, the FBI said its data can be useful in other ways. "UCR crime statistics are used in many ways and serve many purposes," the FBI said. "They provide law enforcement with data for use in budget formulation, planning, resource allocation, assessment of police operations, etc., to help address the crime problem at various levels."Chambers of commerce and tourism agencies examine these data to see how they impact the particular geographic jurisdictions they represent. Criminal justice researchers study the nature, cause, and movement of crime over time. Legislators draft anti-crime measures using the research findings and recommendations of law enforcement administrators, planners, as well as public and private entities concerned with crime problems.
