SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents can learn about the city's most iconic buildings this weekend during an open house of nearly 100 sites.Open House San Diego, hosted by the San Diego Architectural Foundation, is offering a free look into sites including buildings downtown, in Barrio Logan, Balboa Park, La Jolla, and elsewhere in the county March 23 and 24. Guests get designer-led tours of hidden gems and treasures across San Diego and can participate in a photo contest to win prizes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego is giving dockless scooters and bikes preferred parkingThe city is in the process of installing 330 rideshare scooter and bike spaces throughout downtown. The first few of them have been spotted in Cortez Hill. “I think it’s smart,” said Carlos Navarro who work at a restaurant in the Gaslamp “they drive by our store — running into the customers or hit the cars that are parked.” The city says the spaces are being placed at red zones where cars cannot park. “It’s not going to be as crowded or cluttered,” said scooter rider Autumn McFeeley, “the city must really like them.” A class action lawsuit was filed against the city earlier this year claiming San Diego has failed to maintain pathways for people with disabilities. “Allowing there to to be safe storage and parking for those vehicles off the sidewalk is a much better approach, said Colin Parent with Circulate San Diego, “it’ll help minimize those kinds of conflicts” The city of San Diego says more information will be made available about this project in coming days. 1069

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County is nearing a move into the state's most restrictive tier of COVID-19 regulations.California launched a tier system in late August to measure COVID-19 risk within a county. San Diego County is now moving into the so-called purple tier, or widespread tier. Moving into that level would trigger stricter regulations, including the indoor closure of several businesses like restaurants and gyms.Some restaurant owners say if San Diego County moves into that tier and they are ordered to close their indoor dining areas, they will not follow the orders."We really want to push against it. There's no other way of making it nowadays," said Nick Kacha, the manager of Rudford's Restaurant in North Park.On Thursday, they put up a sign outside the restaurant that says, "Stand Up Small Business. #Defy""We're hoping other businesses will stand up with us and join the wave," Kacha said. He says nearly a dozen other businesses have said they will also stay open.Restaurant owner, Todd Brown, says he's still deciding what to do. He owns several restaurants, but the one is focused on is Bub's at the Beach in Pacific Beach. Brown says he is worried if they have to close again, they might close for good.Both businesses have followed the public health orders since the pandemic started. But for Brown, he says this time he is thinking it through."If we decide to stay open, it's not because we're trying to make a political statement. It's because we're trying to survive," he said. "You have the option of defying an order and staying open. How does that work? I have no idea, and it's not something I'm really interested in doing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego area fire agencies are boosting staffing levels ahead of what may be the worst Santa Ana wind event this year. The intense weather situation, due to start Tuesday night and last through Thursday, has crews working extra shifts. Cal Fire San Diego has nearly all of its 500 firefighters on duty to staff equipment and fill support roles, an agency spokesperson said on behalf of Chief Tony Mecham. Check 10News Pinpoint Weather ConditionsAlthough the agency is supporting other fires across California, the Regional Coordination Center in Riverside has limited the number of resources sent out of Southern California, Cal Fire reported. Cal Fire also brought 150 out-of-state fire engines to California. San Diego County has an additional 15 fire engines, five patrols, six water tenders, and support elements including a Cal Fire communications unit. The California Office of Emergency Services also announced Tuesday it was coordinating to pre-position fire equipment and personnel ahead of Santa Ana conditions. Two strike teams consisting of five engines are staged in San Diego County, along with a helicopter. The San Diego Fire-Rescue department said staffing would be increased Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. due to the wind event.Two firefighting helicopters are available around the clock, according to spokesperson Mónica Mu?oz. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego gyms are closing amid coronavirus, forcing residents to work out from home and sparking many tips on how to stay fit amid COVID-19. 24-Hour fitness, a popular San Diego gym, sent out a message Monday night noting that the gym would close March 16 until further notice. "As we all grapple with the enormous scale and impact of the coronavirus in the U.S., it reminds us of how precious life is and the importance of protecting our own health," CEO Tony Ueber said in a news release.
